The Star Wars universe is filled with amazing figures. From frighteningly vicious villains like Darth Maul and Darth Vader to wonderfully heroic figures like Luke Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano, there's no shortage of characters from that galaxy far far away for fans to be excited about.

But not every Star Wars character is a respected figure. Some of the droids or people in that galaxy are barely tolerated while others are downright hated by audiences, new and old alike. These are the Star Wars characters that can't seem to get any respect, even if they've never done anything to garner the feelings that people have for them. They are, for the most part, the goofiest characters, the ones who almost everyone agrees are better left undiscussed as time moves on. Each one despised for different reasons but despised all the same.

10 Watto Was A Cast Off Who Only Cared About Money

watto in star wars

Introduced in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Watto is a Toydarian who makes his living on Tattooine as a junk dealer. Watto is the owner of Anakin Skywalker and his mother Shmi, and he is the one who gives Anakin to Qui-Gon Jinn. In Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Watto is much older and very much alone.

He seems sad and broken, having spent his life searching for wealth instead of family. Outside of his two appearances in the movies, Watto has rarely shown up in the extended Star Wars universe.

9 Iron Squadron Was Lame

Iron Squadron Star Wars

Appearing in the animated series Star Wars: Rebels, the Iron Squadron consists of teens Mart Mattin, Theelin Gooti Terez, and Jonner Jin, and the astromech droid R3-A3. The Iron Squadron first ran across the members of Ghost Team when the Ghost arrived to help them escape from the Empire. The Iron Squadron soon joined the Rebellion, playing a role in further missions.

The members of the Iron Squadron, overbrimming with confidence and snark, did not receive a warm welcome from fans of Rebels, and they have not appeared in any other Star Wars stories.

8 Ziro the Hutt Was A Joke

Ziro the hutt

Once the leader of the Hutt Clan, Ziro the Hutt was the cousin of the more famous Jabba the Hutt. In Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Ziro worked with Count Dooku to kidnap Jabba's son Rotta. When the plan failed, Ziro found himself imprisoned by the Galactic Republic.

Jabba hired the bounty hunter Cad Bane to break Ziro out of his prison so he could face Hutt justice, but Ziro escaped only to be killed by Sy Snootles. With his odd Old South accent and comedic fashion, Ziro never quite connected with viewers in any meaningful way and only helped demystify the Hutt Clan.

7 C-3PO Is Just Annoying

Rise of Skywalker final trailer C-3P0 header

Someone can be loved but not respected, and that is the case with C-3PO. One of the best-known characters in Star Wars, C-3PO is no one's favorite character, and for good reason. C-3PO tends to be somewhat comically annoying to the point that his own teammates are barely able to put up with him.

His best and only friend, R2-D2, appears to constantly be sniping at C-3PO. Throughout the nine main Star Wars movies, C-3PO is almost always an afterthought, even when he sacrifices his memories in order to defeat the Emperor.

6 Dexter Jettster Felt Out Of Place & Time

Star Wars Dexter Jettster

Another character from the Prequel Era, Dexter Jettster is a Besalisk who lived on Coruscant and owned a diner that appeared to have been taken from California in the 1960s and sent to the Star Wars galaxy. It even had a droid waitress with a Brooklyn accent. Dexter was friends with Obi-Wan Kenobi and appeared to have more information about what was happening in the universe than the Jedi did.

Dexter Jettster was playing off of George Lucas's nostalgia for his teenage years, but the character and his diner felt vastly out of place in Star Wars and has become a joke between fans because of it.

5 Nute Gunray Was A Naïve Pawn

Nute Gunray wearing a headdress in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

Another character from the prequels, Nute Gunray was a Neimoidian who served as the Viceroy of the Trade Federation and played an important role in the Separatist Confederacy of Independent Systems.

Nute Gunray answered directly to Sith Lord Darth Sidious and believed that he would play a part in the new Empire that Sidious was building. Instead, Nute Gunray was murdered by Anakin Skywalker as soon as he was no longer useful to the Sith Lord.

4 Attichitcuk Made Wookies Creepy

Attichitcuk Star Wars

Originally introduced in the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special, Attichitcuk —better known as Itchy— is one of the more uncomfortable parts of the horrific special. Itchy is Chewbacca's father, and in the Holiday Special, he spends his time watching erotic videos in the family living room while Chewbacca's wife and child fear for the heroic Wookie's life.

Attichitcuk was reintroduced in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, but decades of the Holiday Special being shared between Star Wars fans had already done too much damage for the character to ever be taken seriously.

3 Colonel Gascon Couldn't Gain The Respect of Droids

Colonel Gascon in Star Wars

A General in the Grand Army of the Republic, Meebur Gascon was given command of the D-Squad, a group of droids that included R2-D2. Gascon has no respect for the droids put under his charge, and in return the droids did not respect him, going so far as to continually refer to the General as a Corporal.

General Gascon would be easily forgettable if his story didn't take up four episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. For fans of the show, watching nearly two hours of Gascon complaining was almost too much to bear.

2 Battle Droids Were Terrible Soldiers

B1 Battle Droid

Droids aren't overly respected in the Star Wars universe. While these machines can feel things like pain and sadness, and while they tend to be very loyal to their owners, they are —for the most part— bought and sold off with regularity and usually treated as nothing more than property.

And no droid gets less respect than the Battle Droids of the Separatist Droid Army. Called "Clankers" by the Republic Clone Troopers, the Battle Droids were not very intelligent or good at fighting, but what they lacked in skill they made up for in numbers. Sadly, for them, they did feel pain, which is an odd thing to give a robot designed to die. For audiences, their overly comedic stylings made them less endearing and more annoying.

1 Jar Jar Binks Was Universally Hated

Jar Jar Binks in Star Wars

Easily the most disliked character in Star Wars, Jar Jar Binks was met with universal revulsion almost instantly. Set up to be a major character in Episode I, Jar Jar was pushed to the background for the next two films, though he does play a major role in giving Senator Palpatine the power he needs to take control of the Galactic Republic.

In the extended universe stories, Jar Jar became an outcast who was forced to make a living as a street clown who was loved by children but hated by adults.
