UPDATE: Star Wars insider Bespin Bulletin addressed the image, saying it is "fake" and that the original poster has "ties to cosplay." Also noted by Bespin Bulletin are the cameras featured in the image, which the insider says are unlike the ones used on Ahsoka, which is also not supposed to start filming "for a couple [of] weeks."

WARNING: This story contains potential spoilers for Star Wars' upcoming Ahsoka series on Disney+.

A photo leaked from the set of Disney+'s Ahsoka series reveals the appearance of a major character in the Star Wars series.

Shared on Reddit, the photo depicts a scene between Rosario Dawson's Ahsoka and the Sith Lord, Darth Maul, who is wearing his Crimson Dawn outfit. At their feet looks to be a Mandalorian who has been beheaded. "I came across this photo someone posted in an RV group on Facebook," wrote the photo's original poster Super_Drewper in the comments. "They stumbled across this crew filming while hiking in New Mexico. What is happening in this picture?!?"

This image comes after recent reports stated that an unnamed Star Wars production was filming in New Mexico with Parks and Recreation star Jim O'Heir. If the photo featuring Ahsoka and Darth Maul proves to be real, that unnamed Star Wars project could be Ahsoka. This photo also comes after recent comments from Lucasfilm Creative Executive Pablo Hidalgo, who bluntly denied rumors that Darth Maul would return in a different Disney+ series, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

"A brown sun rises. Bullshit has been spilled," Hidalgo wrote in response to the rumor. The rumor stated actor Ray Park was actively in preproduction and stunt training for the role before he was written out of the script for Kenobi in favor of Hayden Christensen's Darth Vader and the Grand Inquisitor.

Portrayed by Park and voiced by Peter Serafinowicz, Maul debuted in The Phantom Menace in 1999. While the character seemingly perished in Episode I at the hands of Obi-Wan, he reappeared in the animated series, The Clone Wars, this time voiced by Sam Witwer, having denounced the title "Darth" and the Sith altogether. Maul would go on to be a major player in The Clone Wars, which is where Ahsoka first appeared in the Star Wars universe, as well as Star Wars Rebels.

It's unclear if Park is the actor underneath the makeup in the leaked photo. However, the actor did share a photo of himself in his Darth Maul makeup in February 2021, which lead to speculation that the character would be returning in a future Star Wars project. The photo has since been deleted and Park's return remains unconfirmed by both Disney and Lucasfilm.

A release date for Ahsoka has not yet been announced.
