Rian Jonhson has revealed more details on Rey's very own Dagobah moment during the mirror cave scene in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.Writer Sariah Wilson recently spoke with Rian Johnson over Zoom and has been sharing details of the conversation with Star Wars fans on her Twitter. Yesterday, she shed light on the mirror cave scene in Johnson's film, where Rey enters a mysterious cave on Ahch-To and sees a series of visions. The moment parallels the one in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back where Luke enters the Cave of Evil on Dagobah while training with Yoda.RELATED: Star Wars Fan Finds a Secret Han Solo Message in The Last Jedi - and It's PerfectWhen Wilson asked Johnson if Rey saw Ben Solo in the cave, the director and writer compared the scene to the one from Empire Strikes Back. "Similar to Luke going into the cave in [Empire Strikes Back], it is left open to your interpretation. He didn't want to be definitive about it so that it wouldn't take away from what you got out of it," Wilson relayed.

"He saw it as Rey having to see that who she has to connect with and answer to is herself, because she had been looking for answers from Luke," Wilson continued. "She wants to know her place in this story and is reaching out to people to find it. He likes that it's left open for interpretation."

In Empire Strikes Back, Luke faces a vision of Darth Vader in his cave, who he battles and defeats. He then sees his own face in Vader's mask, teasing the reveal at the film's end of Luke's parentage. But the moment also teases Luke's flirtation with the dark side of the Force. Rey's vision is more nebulous, allowing for even more interpretation. But Johnson highlights that it's all about Rey looking to herself for guidance, rather than from external forces.

"He saw the mirror/cave as an internal experience. I asked about it being connected to the [World Between Worlds], but he reiterated that he saw it as internal for Rey. As a [Star Wars] fan, he hopes that we'll get more[World Between Worlds] content in the future (but he doesn't have any info on it, he was just speculating)," Wilson said.

Introduced in Star Wars Rebels, the World Between Worlds is a gateway point between time and space. Ezra Bridger accesses it in the series and uses it to save Ahsoka Tano from Darth Vader. Palpatine then uses them to access it, but Ahsoka is able to fend him off. Many fans have speculated that the cave Rey finds herself in may be connected to the World Between Worlds, as other elements from Rebels have featured in the films. For now, however, the unique part of Star Wars lore has yet to make a proper live-action debut.
