The Last Jedi Features an Alien Version of Carrie Fisher’s Dog

Star Wars: The Last Jedi looks to be an emotional send-off for series veteran Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia in the original trilogy and tragically passed away at the end of 2016. The Last Jedi will be Fisher’s final acting role, making the film the last opportunity for Star Wars fans to see their idol in action and say goodbye. Director Rian Johnson recently confirmed that a personal piece of Fisher’s legacy was added to the film in the form of a pet alien that looks quite a bit like her dog, Gary.

Unfortunately, the tweet in which Johnson confirmed the character’s uncanny resemblance has since been taken down. But according to CinemaBlend, one keen-eyed fan posited that the alien in this photo looks a great deal like Fisher’s dog. “YES! Wow, good eyes,” Johnson responded.

Gary enjoys his own semi-celebrity status, as the dog has appeared at comic conventions and has his own Instagram account that’s still frequently updated. The addition of his likeness to the most recent Star Wars film is a fitting tribute to Fisher, who wasn’t shy about doting on her beloved Gary.
