Star Wars: The Last Jedi is clearly shaping up to be the darkest Star Wars story to date. This should come as no surprise given that director Rian Johnson has been touting a big, emotional dive into the Force, and the overall attempts to balance the Light and the Dark which has consumed the galaxy for ages.

Whether it's through the origins and overall destinies of characters like Daisy Ridley's Rey and Adam Driver's Kylo Ren, the rivalry between Supreme Leader Snoke and Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker, or the war between the First Order and the Resistance, the stakes are higher than ever -- which usually means that death is close by. Following the gut-wrenching execution of Harrison Ford's Han Solo in The Force Awakens, one thing's for sure: everyone's a potential casualty, and as a result we've narrowed down a few predictions as to who will bite the dust next in this epic space saga.

5. KYLO REN

Kylo-Ren

Fans may actually enjoy Kylo's death given that he was the one who killed Han Solo, his father. But what's for certain is that he will be meeting up Rey, even trying to seduce her to the Dark Side. This could end up being his undoing because Rey viewed Han as a father-figure and may well end up taking revenge. From what we've seen so far, she has a power that scares Luke, so Kylo better watch his back.

Snoke is also tempting Rey, so he could convince her to kill Kylo as well. There's also the possibility Kylo's former master, Luke, may take him out, because the last Skywalker (we assume) doesn't seem to be holding Jedi ideals anymore. The point is, Kylo has a lot of enemies, and if Force-users don't get him, there's always Poe Dameron and the Resistance fighters ready to blast him into oblivion.

4. CHEWBACCA

No one wants to see their favorite Wookiee die, but there's a chance the traitorous Solo will end up repaying Chewie by killing him too. It would be very bitter, but very dramatic if he meets the same fate as Han, as we met them as ride-or-die partners way back in 1977's A New Hope.

It would also give the likes of Luke and Rey another excuse to hunt down Snoke, Kylo and the rest of the First Order. Chewie always runs the risk of getting shot down in the Millennium Falcon in any case, and with General Hux (Domnhall Gleeson) eyeing the Resistance, Chewie is very likely to end up in his crosshairs. He's also a protector of General Leia, so that too puts him in the firing line when the First Order comes a-knocking.

3. A PORG

Many assume that the Porgs will be all friendly and cute, but subtle details have been dropped so far that indicate Chewbacca may end up eating one! Found on Ahch-To, where Luke will be training Rey, they were assumed to be creatures that the Wookiee befriended, but a shot in the D-23 event sizzle reel showed him with feathers in his mouth, hinting he may have feasted on one.

From the promotional footage, and John Boyega's (who plays ex-Stormtrooper Finn) comments so far, they may be pests infesting the Falcon, so what better way to get rid of them than by smacking and snacking on them. Chewbacca doesn't handle annoyance well, no matter the species, so if they get on his nerves and tick him off on a Jar-Jar Binks level, then we won't be shocked if he eats one. Just like the Falcon, Chewie needs his fuel!

2. LUKE SKYWALKER

Kylo may well be hunting Luke, the last of the Jedi, and looking to finish the job started with the Knights of Ren at the Jedi Temple. Luke has seemingly forsaken his Jedi philosophies so there's also the chance his tutelage of Rey could backfire terribly. If she kills him for going rogue or somewhat dark, expect the franchise to be flipped on its head.

Then there's the possibility of Snoke opposing Luke, truly pitting the Dark against the Light. The point is, to really evolve the franchise and push Kylo and Rey to the forefront as the new faces of Star Wars, Luke has to go. He's already tried to protect the galaxy and failed, so it's about time we get a new outlook on what the Jedi, Sith and the Force essence that lies in between really mean, enabling us to finally move past the Skywalker legacy.

1. GENERAL LEIA

When Carrie Fisher died, it rocked the entire film industry. It took a while to get over and now, all that's left is to see how General Leia Organa will be phased out. It'll be emotional seeing her on the big screen, and if she's killed, rather than written out, then expect even more tears. She was expected to appear in Episode IX but that could have been in flashbacks, meaning that whether we like it or not, she's on the chopping block.

Details have been kept mum but Johnson's debut trailer did show Kylo ready to pull the trigger and kill his mother on her ship. This act would cement him as one of Star Wars' most vile villains, and eliminating another parent would surely drive him deeper into Snoke's clutches. Leia's death would also be a major blow to the Resistance and a huge victory for the First Order.

Written and directed by Rian Johnson, Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters December 15 and stars Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Andy Serkis as Supreme Leader Snoke, Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux, Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata, Benicio Del Toro as ‘DJ’, Kelly Marie Tran as Rose Tico, Laura Dern as Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, and the late Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa.
