Out of all the exciting new content teased during Disney's Investor Day 2020, one of the most anticipated (and long rumored) series announced was the Lando Disney+ event series, which will be developed by Dear White People's Justin Simien. While details are sparse, the notion of a miniseries centering around one of Star Wars' most infamous charismatic scoundrels is extremely promising, especially in the wake of Donald Glover's younger rendition and Billy Dee Williams' recent return to the character in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

While it is tempting to give Lando Calrissian an origin treatment just as his old buddy Han received, a more intriguing notion is to set the series after The Rise of Skywalker. While the story may have finally concluded the Skywalker Saga, the ending of the film set up Lando for at least one more adventure that could possibly have major personal consequences for him.

At the end of The Rise of Skywalker, a somber Lando sits watching the Resistance celebrate its victory over the First Order. Jannah, a First Order Stormtrooper deserter, joins him and they begin talking about their homes. After Jannah reveals that she doesn't know where she comes from, Lando responds, "Well, let's find out."

While many people saw this exchange as being flirtatious in nature (after all, this is Lando we're talking about), the intention was revealed to be more paternalistic than romantic. In fact, fan speculation has run wild with claims that Jannah is indeed Lando's long-lost daughter, with a passage from the film's Visual Dictionary adding fuel to the fire. The film's novelization, while not confirming this theory, did strongly imply that Lando's next mission would involve reuniting former First Order Stormtroopers with their families that they were stolen from.

This proposed future adventure could be the perfect backdrop to set up the new Lando series. With Billy Dee Williams reprising his role once more and Jannah returning as co-pilot to his ship, Lady Luck, they could traverse the newly liberated galaxy, having adventures while reuniting families along the way. Not only would this storyline fit nicely into Disney+'s catalog of family friendly content, but would also recontextualize Lando's character and show a different side to the man. It would also give Naomi Ackie more time to give her underdeveloped character a fair shake, and perhaps even confirm what many fans believe to be true: that Jannah is a Calrissian.

That's not to say that Donald Glover has to left out of the series. As previously suggested on CBR, the series could explore Lando as both a young and an old man, giving both actors a chance to return to the iconic role and enriching the story by switching between time-periods. If both actors are game to reprise their roles, then Disney would have a golden opportunity to please fans by casting both great performers as well as bring Star Wars out of the past and into the future.
