Star Wars creative executive Pablo Hidalgo called out a recently "leaked" trailer supposedly featuring the Knights of Ren as a fake, putting theories about the project to rest.

In response to an image of a story covering how impressive the footage looks, Hidalgo made a concise and pithy observation that answers questions from fans about it. "I don't quite get why faked trailer leaks are so shaky," the exec tweeted. "It's not that hard to hold a phone anymore." It doesn't explain where the trailer came from, but it does end any theorizing of it being an official one.

The supposed trailer runs just over a minute and has a very official look, opening with the Lucasfilm logo and closing with a title card calling it "A Star Wars Story" just as the Rogue One and Solo films were titled. There is even a Disney+ logo to cap it off, leading to more questions as to whether the trailer was for a film or streaming series.

It also has some impressive action, with a darkly dressed figure, clearly meant to be a member of the Knights of Ren, leaping from a TIE Fighter to an X-Wing and slicing it apart with a red lightsaber. There's no doubt it looks impressive, and even has a fittingly ominous voiceover copying and twisting the meaning of Yoda's speech about the dark side from The Phantom Menace, but it's still just fan-made.

Making their first appearance in the franchise in The Force Awakens mainly in the form of visions, the crew of Force-sensitive warriors under Kylo Ren's command generated much interest before they were easily dispatched by his reformed self as Ben Solo in The Rise of Skywalker. Their relatively unimpressive usage after a promising introduction left some fans unhappy and hoping for more.

The group has also appeared in the Marvel Star Wars comics, fleshing out their backstories some, introducing their original leader and revealing they once worked with Crimson Dawn boss Qi'ra. She sent them on a mission to steal something from Darth Vader's castle, of all places. They aren't portrayed in the most positive light in the Crimson Reign crossover either, so it makes even more sense that fans would react well to a trailer showing at least one of them living up to the promise of their reputation as foretold in the films.
