The following contains spoilers from Star Wars: Darth Vader #30, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

In the Star Wars Universe, many have tried to kill Darth Vader, to no avail. The rebels botched the mission a few times, not to mention even the shady Emperor Palpatine couldn't break this apprentice's mind and body the way he secretly wanted to. It speaks to how adaptable Vader was, learning from his time as the Jedi Anakin Skywalker, and from the Clone Wars.

It helps that he had mentors like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Master Yoda to learn from, building a base to become a Sith warlord after soaking in the Dark Side of the Force. However, come Star Wars: Darth Vader #30 (by Greg Pak, Luke Ross, Federico Blee, and VC's Joe Caramagna), a familiar enemy gets the perfect weapon to kill Vader. It takes the form of a kill-squad Vader, ironically, made himself.

Star Wars Just Created the Newest Death Droids

Star Wars has Jul Tambor using droids as a death-squad to kill Darth Vader

The previous issue of the series had Sabé (Padmé's former double) working for Vader, trying to bring about positive change in the galaxy. She seemed to have killed Jul Tambor on Skako Minor, but she actually faked his death. This was because she knew if his treason continued, it'd bring Vader in to slaughter thousands. However, Jul isn't letting go of his vendetta, revealing he's buying up an army of droids while he's in hiding.

These droids were used by the Separatists to battle the Republic, help the Trade Federation, enslave Naboo and wreak havoc, in general. While they were frail and comedic back in the day, Jul has been reprogramming them to be death machines with one directive. More so, these were bots Vader killed, thus by altering their code, he's making them intent on murdering Vader and more bitter than ever.

Star Wars Has a Twist Regarding the Droids and Darth Vader

Star Wars has Jul Tambor using droids as a death-squad to kill Darth Vader

Jul confesses the key to this are their last memories: Vader butchering them, which he hopes will spur them on. But what's also telling is these droids have data studying all Vader's moves in battle -- an archive not even Obi-Wan would have after the Jedi went extinct. As a result, these droids are bred specifically to improvise and predict his style, which means they're experts in hunting the Sith general. It leaves Sabé stunned because she didn't want her betrayal of Vader to lead to his death, although we know this won't happen.

But as Jul makes clear, killing Vader is something his dad and family, in general, always wanted. It's his birthright to deal this Empire a blow, and there's no better instrument than these droids Vader usually scoffs at. As a kid, teen and now this charred war vet, he loved destroying them, but now's the time for payback. And while many would assume Vader would be mentally sturdy for this feud to come, well, Jul turns on Sabé, using her as bait. Ultimately, this hostage will compromise Vader as he still sees his love for Padmé in her, which will make him an easier target.
