Star WarsJohn Boyega will star in Netflix's upcoming thriller film Rebel Ridge. Helmed by Jeremy Saulnier, the writer-director of Green Room, Rebel Ridge is Saulnier's latest contribution to the gore-fueled genre that he often dabbles in.

Variety reports that the film will highlight American issues within the framework of extreme violence, suspense and black comedy. No release date was given and no other casting announcements were made.

As of right now, John Boyega is saying farewell to his latest role as ex-stormtrooper Finn in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The highly-anticipated film will be released in theaters everywhere on December 20. The final installment in the latest Star Wars trilogy, The Rise of Skywalker is set to wrap up the winding plot-lines of Rey and her companions – Finn and Poe Dameron – as they fight against the First Order and the Dark Side.

In addition to his role in Star Wars, John Boyega has starred in Katheryn Bigelow's intense biopic Detroit, kaiju action-flick Pacific Rim: Uprising and the cult-classic sci-fi film Attack the Block.

Netflix's Rebel Ridge, starring John Boyega, is co-produced by Filmscience and Bonneville Pictures alongside Jeremy Saulnier, Anish Savjani, Neil Kopp, and Vincent Savino. Macon Blair is the Executive Producer.
