Ever since the Star Wars canon connected everything from movies and television to books and games, the lore has expanded exponentially. Even more exciting has been that each new entry has been given the same quality and care as a franchise movie, and it's shown in games like Star Wars Battlefront II and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. In fact, the latter was such a critical and commercial hit that it has opened the door for a brand-new sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

The Star Wars Jedi games follow the adventures of Jedi hero Cal Kestis as he grows from being a survivor of Order 66 to a fellow fighter against the scourge of the Galactic Empire. However, the people he's encountered and impacted are what makes the story so compelling. It illustrates that even though the Jedi Order is gone, the lessons of peace and justness remained. With Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on the horizon, it's important to recap Cal's journey as new players venture back into the era of the original trilogy from a new perspective.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order centers around Cal Kestis, a survivor of Order 66 and the once apprentice of Jedi Master Jaro Topal. Through flashbacks, players see how Cal and Jaro were caught on a Republic ship during Order 66 and had to fight against the clones on the vessel. After Topal died in the escape, he gave Cal half of his double-bladed lightsaber. At the start of Fallen Order, it's been five years since Order 66, and Cal is living in hiding until he's outed by saving a friend with the Force. On the run from Sith Inquisitors, Cal is saved by another Jedi named Cere Junda and her ally, Greez, on the ship the Stinger Mantis.

While on the ship, Cal is sent on a mission to unlock an ancient vault that's said to carry a Jedi Holocron with the locations of Force-Sensitive children. There, he meets his droid companion, BD-1, but as they hunt for the Holocron, so do the Inquisitors, mainly the Second and Ninth Sisters. Throughout Fallen Order, players are sent to many planets and eventually defeat the Ninth Sister.

However, once the Holocron is found, Cal has to infiltrate the Fortress Inquisitorius and defeat the Second Sister to retrieve it. While there, he and Cere face off with and barely survive an attack by Darth Vader. In the end, Cal is officially knighted, and rather than find the Force-Sensitive children, he destroys the Holocron to protect them. The game concludes with the crew of the Mantis, now including the Nightsister Merrin, traveling the stars to protect those in need against the Empire.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor follows Cal's story five years after the events of Fallen Order. At that time, he and BD-1 are the only ones still actively searching the galaxy until the Mantis encounters a crash landing. Cere, Greez, and Merrin have all seemingly gone their own way and are trying to live lives apart from the Empire. That said, they're still friends with Cal and Merrin will still help where she can, joining him as a companion at certain points. Cal, now older and wiser, has also taken on a more active role in facing the Empire and has uncovered new secrets as well, including awakening a Jedi who was present during the High Republic.

Through Cal, players will see a far more skilled Jedi face off against new threats. That said, the game's main antagonist has yet to be revealed. Nevertheless, it's clear that Cal will continue to fight, and his key to success will be with the allies he's made along the way. However, as Fallen Order proved, those allies were only made through his kindness and willingness to trust in those helping him. Now Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will push Cal and his friends to their limits and explore the cost of fighting an uphill battle against the Empire.
