Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order star Cameron Monaghan is being considered for a new live-action Disney+ series, if a recent rumor is to be believed.
Fan site starwarsnewsnet.com reports claims by Star Wars insider Kristian Harloff that a show starring the hit video game's protagonist Cal Kestis is in development, with Monaghan signed on to reprise the role. The YouTuber added that while no production dates have been set for the live-action Fallen Order spinoff, it is nevertheless expected to move forward soon. Neither Lucasfilm nor Disney+ have publicly announced this project, so its existence should be treated as pure speculation at this stage.
Rumors of a Fallen Order TV show arrive hot on the heels of a recent announcement by Respawn Entertainment, EA and Lucasfilm Games regarding the game's sequel. This announcement revealed that the eagerly-awaited follow-up is called Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, and was accompanied by a brief teaser trailer as well as confirmation of the game's 2023 release window. At the time, Respawn game director Stig Asmussen promised fans that Survivor will make the most of next generation hardware to raise the bar set by Fallen Order. "We're leveraging advanced technology to create more dynamic Jedi combat and cinematic storytelling to expand on Cal's story as he matures and survives during the dark times," he said.
More recently, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy noted the influence of video game storytelling on the wider Star Wars franchise. Kennedy said that the more familiar she has become with the way games are written, the more she has come to appreciate how much they have in common with the "persistent storytelling" that drives the saga itself. She also touched on ongoing efforts to incorporate lore established in the video games into Star Wars movies and TV shows. "We have fun identifying who carries forward, and what we reference, and the history," Kennedy said. "You always want to feel that there's a history behind everything that's happening in Star Wars."
A recent example of the increasing overlap between Star Wars' various multimedia properties appeared in Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 4, which marked the live-action debut of Fortress Inquisitorius. As its name suggests, the fortress is the headquarters of the Inquisitors, and it made its first appearance as the final location in Fallen Order's campaign. Fortress Inquisitorius' interiors were briefly featured in Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 3, however, the imposing stronghold was only fully revealed in the following episode.
