Actor James Earl Jones has provided voicework for a number of iconic characters, including Darth Vader across the Star Wars franchise. Those involved with the franchise, as well as Jones' fans, celebrated the actor's 90th birthday on social media.Star Wars social media accounts announced the actor's birthday by writing, "He’s got the most iconic voice in the galaxy" and inviting fans to leave birthday wishes. Additionally, actor Mark Hamill celebrated the occasion with a collection of photos and a caption reading, "Happy Birthday, Dad. Darth Vader was portrayed on-screen by the late David Prowse, but the voice of the legendary villain was provided Jones, as the filmmakers wished for the character to possess a much more intimidating voice. Jones went on to make a vocal appearance across the original trilogy.

He returned for the final instalment in George Lucas' prequel trilogy: Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, which saw Anakin Skywalker complete his transformation into Emperor Palpatine's apprentice. He returned for a minor voice cameo for Rogue One and the conclusion of the sequel trilogy, Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker, and has provided voicework for Darth Vader in several episodes of Star Wars Rebels.
