Star Wars fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Andor, the 12-episode series about Rogue One character Cassian Andor set for Disney+. Fans are already expecting some classic characters to pop up, like Imperial Senator turned Rebel leader Mon Mothma. But if Star Wars history is going to be followed, Ahsoka Tano will appear in Andor -- even if only briefly.

The former padawan of Anakin Skywalker is having an impressive couple of years. Not only did she return for the final season of the militant Star Wars: The Clone Wars, but she made her live-action debut in The Mandalorian. And in advance of her own self-titled show, she also appeared in The Book of Boba Fett, having a conversation with Luke Skywalker himself. A blink-and-miss-it reference in Rogue One's visual guide reveals Andor's connection to Ahsoka. If Cassian has been in the fight since he was six years old, the two should cross paths.

A key narrative in Andor will be how the title character goes from living a peaceful life to being drawn into first the Clone Wars and then the Rebellion. In E.K. Johnston's novel Ahsoka, she links up with Bail Organa, who is already forming the Rebellion. The two old allies agree to partner up in secrecy. He will help her find and rescue children with Force talent who are being hunted by the Empire, as seen in Obi-Wan Kenobi. She agrees to be a spy for the nascent Rebellion and uses the "Fulcrum" alias first revealed in Star Wars: Rebels.

In Rebels, the central group of characters work on their own -- but Ghost captain Hera Syndulla is in contact with a sympathizer known only as "Fulcrum." At the end of the first season, she is revealed to be Ahsoka. By Season 3, the turncoat Imperial agent Kallus is the "new" Fulcrum after Ahsoka disappears on Malachor. Yet in between Ahsoka and her disappearance in Rebels she helped to build an entire network of Fulcrum agents, of which Cassian Andor is one. Conceivably, Cassian is involved with one of the disparate Rebel cells -- at the very least, he and Ahsoka are traveling in the same galactic circles. At the most, how he goes from being on the fridge to in the heart of Rebel intelligence will drive the Disney+ series.

Ahsoka's appearance in The Mandalorian was (eventually) expected. However, her turning up in The Book of Boba Fett was a genuine surprise. She did not appear in Obi-Wan Kenobi despite some fans' hopes the show would feature full-on Clone Wars flashbacks. Obi-Wan and Ahsoka reuniting would have run the risk of breaking Star Wars canon the way some folks lament any interstitial story does. However, her appearance in Andor could be very different.

Cassian Andor's people were Separatists in the Clone Wars. With that history, Andor wouldn't be as excited to encounter a (former) Jedi. So rather than being instantly trusted like she was by Din Djarin or Luke, Ahsoka would have to win over the skeptical rebel. If she does this with the aim of recruiting Cassian for Fulcrum, that could set up a significant story arc between the two, even if it only plays out via scenes here and there throughout Andor's 24 episodes. While viewers know how Ahsoka's disappearance affected the Ghost crew, the rest of the Fulcrum agents she worked with would have no idea what happened to her.

Whether Rosario Dawson's Ahsoka shows up in Andor or not, she's all over his personal Star Wars history. Moreso than the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Lucasfilm wants their Star Wars series to feel connected to the main saga and each other. Characters from Obi-Wan Kenobi like potential padawan Reva or Roken will almost certainly show up again. Ahsoka Tano fits in with every generation of Star Wars. Using her to bridge time gaps in series like Andor not only facilitates that sense of connection, it gives fans more time with one of their favorite characters.

Andor debuts Sept. 21, 2022 on Disney+.
