WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures: The Monster at Temple Peak #2, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Before the beginning of the Star Wars: The High Republic subseries, Ty Yorrick left the Jedi Order under traumatizing circumstances and became a saber-for-hire specializing in hunting monsters. While Ty appears cold and unwilling to make connections, she actually can be good with children. In Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures: The Monster at Temple Peak #2, Ty gains a stowaway, Drewen, who follows her because he wants her to train him to be a Jedi. Even though Ty currently is reluctant to take on any apprentice as a Jedi or a monster hunter, her opinion may change as she climbs Temple Peak and begins to deal with her past trauma.

Ty first meets Drewen at the beginning of Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures: The Monster at Temple Peak #1 by Cavan Scott, Rachael Stott, Vita Efremova, Nicola Righi, Johanna Nattalie, Riley Farmer and Heather Antos. While Ty tries to capture a gundark for a client, Drewen stumbles into the scene, and Ty has to kill the gundark to save him, losing out on the payday. Ty thinks that she will never see the kid again, and, after consulting her Verazeen stones, Ty takes a job on Loreth to hunt a beast known as a Gretalax to protect a small village.

Drewen pesters Ty Yorrick with questions about her Jedi past in Star Wars The High Republic

While climbing Temple Peak to find the Gretalax, Ty encounters an unknown being trapped completely in a rock weaver's web at the end of the issue. Ty defeats the rock weaver at the beginning of Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures: The Monster at Temple Peak #2 by Cavan Scott, Rachael Stott, Vita Efremova, Nicola Righi, Johanna Nattalie, Riley Farmer and Heather AntosThe being in the rock weaver's web disappears, but Ty is still able to sense that the figure, who turns out to be Drewen, is following her. Once discovered, Drewen admits that his species, the Segredo, are able to make themselves seem invisible using mind tricks, explaining how he managed to get past Ty and on to her ship.

Drewen's main goal is to become a Jedi, but, due to her past, Ty is unwilling to train him. She turns him away at first, but her droid, Kayel, convinces Ty to let him travel with her. When camping for the night, Drewen explains that everyone in his village who was able to work was taken by marauders, but the Great Disaster created an opportunity for them to fight back. Drewen's brother died helping Drewen escape in the chaos, and Drewen's desire to become a Jedi stems in part from the stories that his brother used to tell. Since the marauders do not seem to have been Nihil, Drewen's past shows that there were other, smaller groups wreaking havoc in the Outer Rim. His past also shows how much the Jedi are considered a beacon of hope in the galaxy, even though they had nothing to do with Drewen's eventual escape.

Drewen's constant questions trigger Ty's memories of her time as a Padawan and the secret trip she took to Mount Bikja with her friend, Klias Teradine. While the climactic events of that trip have not yet been revealed, the experience was traumatizing enough for Ty to forsake the Jedi and set out on her own. Still, at the end of the issue, Ty agrees to let Drewen continue traveling with her. While she claims the decision is for practical purposes because she needs someone to carry her gear, she may be gaining some affection for him that could lead to them continuing to work together beyond Loreth.

Lula Talisola Ram Jomaram V-18 and the Bonbraks from Star Wars: The High Republic

Despite Ty’s protests, she has proven to be good with children before. On Valo, Ty worked with Ram Jomaram and served as an unconventional mentor figure towards him, even if she would deny it, in Daniel José Older's Star Wars: The High Republic: Race to Crashpoint Tower. In the novel, Ram Jomaram is wrongfully arrested trying to warn Lonisa City about the damage to Crashpoint Tower and a potential Nihil attack. Ty was also in prison because her clients tried to sell a weapon to Senator Tia Toon that would disable lightsabers, misinterpreting Toon's desire for a Republic army as a dislike of Jedi. Ty works with Ram to escape the prison, and when they meet up later, Ty gives Ram, Lula Talisola and Zeen Mrala a sanval, a dragon-like creature, to help them fight off the Drengir.

While Ty does not become a mentor for Ram in an official capacity, she still works well with him.  While Ty is unwilling to work with Drewen now, she may be able to direct him to the Jedi that she has worked with before. Alternately, if Ty confronts her past, she may be willing to train Drewen to use the Force or become a monster hunter, even if she still refuses to use the title of Jedi. Despite her current reluctance to make any solid connections, Ty also could serve as a strong mentor for Drewen in the future.
