Star Wars Rebels introduced viewers to new concepts in the Star Wars universe that seemed impossible when the original trilogy was released. From seeing the full influence of the Empire to more Jedi besides Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi surviving Order 66, Rebels served as the perfect bridge between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. However, while the series may be a prequel to the original trilogy, that didn't mean that fans knew what to expect.

One of the biggest surprises in the series came in Season 4, Episode 10, "Jedi Night." The episode followed Jedi Master Kanan Jarrus (Freddie Prinze Jr.) and the rest of the crew as they went to save their friend and leader, Hera Syndulla (Vanessa Marshall), from the Empire. While the rescue was a success, the crew only managed to escape because Kanan sacrificed his life. His unexpected death struck all of Ghost Squadron hard, and even his lightsaber couldn't be retrieved as a memento. Instead, his unique weapon was in the hands of Imperial Governor Pryce (Elizabeth McGlynn).

Kanan Jarrus is ready to fight

When he was younger, Kanan went by the name Caleb Dume during the Age of the Republic. He created a lightsaber with characteristics unlike anything the Jedi had seen. Rather than a straight hilt, Kanan's had a circular hand guard before the emitter. While his master, Depa Billaba, thought it was strange, she accepted his choice as being the will of the Force. Following Order 66, Kanan was forced into hiding and knew that he couldn't travel the galaxy with a lightsaber strapped to his belt. Luckily, his lightsaber had the ability to be broken down into two parts, enabling him to hide it in plain sight on his belt and only use it when necessary.

It wasn't until Kanan met Ezra Bridger (Taylor Gray) that the saber was once again used on a more regular basis. Thanks to its low-power setting, he trained Ezra, who took notes from his master and developed a unique lightsaber of his own that doubled as a stun blaster. Kanan's saber's training mode vibrated slightly higher than others, while the blade's color was also a lighter shade of blue. When he was forced into combat, the saber proved fiercely reliable. Kanan had even taken on Sith Lords like Darth Vader and Darth Maul with the blade and survived.

Once Governor Pryce gained possession of Kanan's saber, she intended to gift it to Grand Admiral Thrawn, a brilliant leader with an affinity for various cultures' artifacts. However, Pryce never got the opportunity to do so before the rebels launched their final assault on Lothal to eliminate the Imperial occupation. Rigged to blow, Pryce decided to stay onboard the mobile Imperial Complex and went down with the facility as it exploded. Sadly, it's likely that Kanan's lightsaber was also in the facility.

Kanan Jarrus' saber was one of the most unique designs in the entire franchise. It sits with other specialized lightsaber hilts such as Kylo Ren's, Yoda's and Count Dooku's. Nevertheless, the most impressive aspect of Kanan and his lightsaber was the legacy that he left behind with it. In the end, his memory continued to live on through the people who knew him and the family he left behind.
