Gizmo was first introduced to the world in 1984's Gremlins, which was directed by Joe Dante and written by Chris Columbus. Voiced by Howie Mandel, Gizmo is a Mogwai that Randall Peltzer (Hoyt Axton) purchases for his son, Billy (Zach Galligan). While cute and cuddly at first, Billy comes to learn Mogwai transform into hideous creatures if they're fed after midnight. Gizmo also stars in the 1990 sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch. A younger version of the character will also appear in the upcoming Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, a new HBO Max prequel series which is expected to air in 2023 from Tze Chun.

Audiences first met Grogu in the first episode of The Mandalorian, which aired on Disney+ in 2019. Grogu was raised at the Coruscant's Jedi Temple during the Clone Wars and is a member of the same species as Yoda. Created by The Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau, Grogu plays an important role throughout the series as he accompanies the titular bounty hunter on a number of missions throughout the galaxy. Grogu also appeared in an episode of The Book of Boba Fett spin-off.
