Forest Whitaker will reprise his Star Wars role as Saw Gerrera for the spinoff/prequel series Andor.

Andor costar Stellan Skarsgård confirmed that Whitaker will appear on the show during an interview with the Swedish radio station Sverige Radio, adding that the pair have some "juicy scenes" together. What's more, he insisted his character, whose identity is currently under-wraps, will share "at least two good" moments with Saw.

Saw Gerrera first appeared in Season 5 of the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars series, serving as the leader of Onderon's resistance against the Confederacy of Independent Systems alongside his sister Steela. He would go on to join the Rebellion against the Galactic Empire before forming the Partisans, an insurgent militia group whose methods were considered too extreme for the Rebel Alliance. Whitaker played the live-action iteration of the character in 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, in addition to voicing him on the animated show Star Wars Rebels and the 2019 video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Diego Luna is reprising his role as the Rebellion spy Cassian Andor for the character's spinoff series, which will take place five years prior to the events of Rogue One. The show will also explore how the Rebel Alliance evolved over the course of its battle with the Galactic Empire, in the process shedding light on the division within the organization that ultimately spurred Saw into breaking off and forming the Partisans.

Luna and Whitaker are joined in the Andor cast by Genevieve O'Reilly, reprising her Rogue One role as the Galactic Republic senator-turned Rebel Alliance co-founder Mon Mothma. However, Alan Tudyk is no longer expected to return as K-2SO, the former Imperial Enforcer Droid that Cassian reprogrammed to serve as his companion and co-pilot in Rogue One.

Tony Gilroy, who co-wrote Rogue One and worked on the film's reshoots, was hired to act as Andor's showrunner in April 2020, replacing Stephen Schiff. Gilroy was also slated to direct the first three episodes but scaled back his role in Sept. 2020, citing concerns about traveling amidst the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. He remains involved as a writer/producer on the series.

Disney+'s Andor stars Diego Luna, Adria Arjona, Genevieve O'Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, Robert Emms and Forest Whitaker. The series arrives on Disney+ in 2022.
