While a vocal part of the Star Wars fanbase hoped the friendship between Finn and Poe Dameron would develop into a full-fledged romance in The Rise of Skywalker, the two Resistance leaders kept their dynamic platonic by the film's end.

Oscar Isaac has since noted there was a real opportunity for the iconic franchise to bring a romantic relationship between its two male leads to the forefront and would have liked to see it happen. However, he hinted the "Disney overlords" weren't ready for such a prominent same-sex relationship.

Finna and Poe met at the beginning of The Force Awakens, with Finn rescuing Poe from captivity while renouncing his own connection to the First Order. The two formed an immediate bond as they fought against the First Order as part of the Resistance through the subsequent two films.

Isaac and co-star John Boyega have both previously voiced their own support of such a romantic relationship but indicated the studio was not yet ready for such a dynamic to occur. Instead, with the Skywalker Saga now complete, it appears the two friends will remain just that: friends.
