A new female-led Star Wars TV series is in development at Disney+ from the creator of Netflix's Russian Doll.

According to Variety, Leslye Headland will serve as showrunner and executive produce on the new Star Wars series. Though details are unknown at this time, sources for the site state it will take place at a different point in the Star Wars timeline than projects currently in development.

Disney+ is currently the home of the original Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, and the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The latter only has a handful of episodes left in its seventh season, while the former is reportedly already working on Season 3, even though a second season has yet to debut on the streaming service.

Future Star Wars projects for Disney+ include a Cassian Andor series featuring Diego Luna reprising his role as the titular Rebel spy from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and an Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor. Release dates for both series are currently unknown, though Star Wars: Cassian Andor is believed to premiere in 2021.
