The announcement of the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League, known to fans as the Snyder Cut, may have inspired fans of other franchises. Now, some Star Wars fans are rallying around a petition calling for an alleged four-hour George Lucas cut of 2005's Revenge of the Sith.
The petition was posted on Change.org by Fraser Beitzel and addresses George Lucas directly and not The Walt Disney Company, which currently holds the rights to Revenge of the Sith. Its introduction reads, "Hello there! The original Star Wars: Revenge of The Sith (2005) cut was over four hours long, and we think that George Lucas should do the right thing and give the fans what we deserve and what is rightfully ours."
Although the petition does not mention Justice League, the announcement that director Zack Snyder's original cut of Justice League will be released on HBO Max after a two-year campaign by the director's fans appears to be the inspiration for various fandoms to seek similar concessions from Hollywood.
"We love democracy, and we hope he does too," the Revenge of the Sith petition continues. "By signing this you are letting your voices be heard. If this petition does go viral, then we will have unlimited power and if George does the right thing then he would be strong and wise and we would all be very proud of him. This whole operation is our idea and we need to ensure that it is done. We will proclaim ah, victory when we achieve our goal. May the force be with you all and have faith."
The theatrical cut of Revenge of the Sith is two hours and 20 minutes long. So far there has been no evidence that a four-hour cut exists, or that the hypothetical cut would include finished special effects and audio.
At this time, the petition has nearly 11,600 signatures, approaching the officially required milestone of 15,000 signatures.
