Stormtroopers may be the butt of many jokes in the Star Wars Universe, so much so even The Mandalorian takes shots at their aim and incompetence, but a new fan film has painted the Empire's foot soldiers as badass warriors on the frontlines.

A short titled Star Wars: The Last Stand from Sekani Motion Design shows the Stormtroopers in a new light as they fight off an unseen enemy. What makes the piece stand out is the opening shot, which features the heads-up display from the interior of the Stormtroopers' helmet, giving us a vantage point rarely explored in the Star Wars franchise. The camera moves from this perspective to the Stormtroopers rallying and losing against their opposition, but standing tall nonetheless.

With slow-motion effects that fans of Zack Snyder's work would love and an epic soundtrack, the fan film definitely does one thing we rarely see the soldiers doing: hitting the mark.  It's a brilliant animated piece that not only focuses on the Imperial troops taking hits and recovering, but the mechanics of their weaponry and how they fight as a unit.

Directed and co-written by J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Keri Russell, Anthony Daniels, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams and Carrie Fisher, with Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant. The film arrives December 20.
