According to Star Wars: Legends and the Canon timelines, The Force has been strong in many families that have supported the causes of both Jedi and Sith. Within them, the talent in the mysterious power has been passed on from generation to generation.

The families have frequently changed their allegiance because of the actions of one of their members, and in other cases, the bloodlines have lived and died in service of one side of the Force. Here are 10 most powerful Force-sensitive families that have shaped the Star Wars galaxy through their gifts and influence, ranked according to their strength.

10 Diath

A bloodline consisting entirely of Jedi Knights, this family was based on Luke Skywalker's homeworld of Tatooine. The family adopted a reputation of being unlucky because of the countless victims that it suffered through one war or another.

Its devotion to the cause of the Order however prompted many famous Knights such as Obi-Wan Kenobi to remember them as a powerful family that gave its all to the light side of the Force.

9 Veila

Tahiri Veila, the Jedi that befriended Anakin Solo in Timothy Zann's book series, belonged to the Force-sensitive Veila family. Initially, she joined Luke's New Jedi Order before making a turn for the dark side, uniting with Han Solo's fallen son - Dark Caedus.

In many ways, he has proved to be the inspiration behind the sequel trilogy's Ben Solo or Kylo Ren - also the son of the famed, silver-tongued smuggler and Princess Leia.

8 Khai

The Khais were a family devoted to the Sith. The descendants of a crash-landing's survivors, Vestara Khai and Gavar Khai were the bloodline's most prominent members. Despite their dark-side affiliation they weren't consistently devoted to the destruction of the Republic.

The Skywalkers were assisted by the Khais when they were struggling with the powerful dark-side entity Abeloth. Ultimately, some of the Khai died fighting the Jedi, and others, like Vestara, spent the remainder of their lives as the Order's allies.

7 Qel-Droma

Originating from the planet of Alderaan, the Qel-Droma bloodline produced three powerful Jedi Knights - Lien Tsai and her sons Ulic and Cay. Ulic's life transformed into a bitter tragedy when he was seduced by the dark side of the Force and went as far as killing Cay.

Ultimately, the Force-user made a turn to the light and helped the Jedi win a hard-fought victory over the Sith, and despite the fact that Ulic remained as a hero in the eyes of many, he was never able to forgive himself for his crimes.

6 Sunrider

The Sunrider family was one of the light side's greatest contributors. Nomi, in particular, earned a reputation as one of the greatest Jedi of all time.

She was the one who managed to bring Ulic Qel-Droma back to the light and was instrumental for the destruction of Exar Kun and the victorious end of the Great Sith War. Her daughter Vima went on to become an excellent Knight and a Master herself, living up to her mother's successes.

5 Marek

The House of Marek began with the marriage of Kento and Mallie Marek, a Jedi couple who broke the attachment-forbidding laws of the Order.

Their baby was Galen Marek, a.k.a Starkiller, who was taken on by Darth Vader as his personal apprentice and went on to become one of the most powerful, talented, and versatile Force-users. His skills allowed him to perform feats that appeared to be supernatural even for a wielder of the mysterious power, such as moving a Star Destroyer through telekinesis.

4 Shan

When it comes down to raw power, very few families could match the Shan bloodline, especially after the union between Bastille Shan and Revan himself. Bastilla managed to defeat and capture Revan, redeeming him and saving his spirit from the dark side.

Their descendant, the extremely talented Satele Shan continued the battle against the Sith Empire and had a son that also grew up to become a potent Jedi Knight.

3 Skywalker

The most popular family in the franchise, the Skywalkers' story stretches far beyond the core nine films. Luke and Leia successfully expand Anakin's family tree in various alternative storylines.

Ultimately, Vader and his children do their fair share of damage across the galaxy but either way, they prove to be the Sith's greatest enemies, since they were essential to the destruction of Darth Sidious - the dark side's most formidable agent.

2 Palpatine

Otherwise known as the Imperial family, the Palpatines weren't particularly influential as far as the fate of the galaxy was concerned until the day when the future Emperor exterminated all of his relatives. The Force-user, later on, developed his powers exponentially until he was able to kill his master, the great Darth Plagueis.

Every Star Wars fan knows what Sidious proceeded to do and accomplish. There was light at the end of the family line's dark path through Rey, who more or less redeemed the bloodline's horrific crimes.

1 The Ones

The oldest Force-sensitive family in the history of Star Wars, whose members included the Father, the Son and the Daughter and were the embodiment of the dark and light sides of the Force that existed a million years before the start of the Clone Wars.

Their tale is reminiscent of Adam and Eve's biblical story. Tempted, the Son drunk from the Font and was gifted with the power of the dark side, while the Daughter bathed in the Pool and received the power of the light side.
