Fans exploded with excitement when Ewan McGregor officially announced his return as Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi for a limited Disney+ series. However, their excitement is eclipsed by that of none other than McGregor himself.

During an interview with Empire, McGregor said that his excitement for the series outstripped that of working on Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. "I'm more excited about doing this one than I was doing the second and third one that we did before," he said. "I'm just excited to play him again. It's been long enough since I played him before."

McGregor also praised director Deborah Chow, who had previously directed episode of the Star Wars show The Mandalorian. He also said that he was looking forward to the writing of the show.

The series has had a long road to development. Originally, writer Hossein Amini was tapped as showrunner but departed the project in January. He was replaced by Army of the Dead screenwriter Joby Harold; reports indicated that the show's original structure hewed too close to that of The Mandalorian. Details about the series remain scarce, though McGregor has commented that the series will consist of a single standalone season.

Directed by Deborah Chow and starring Ewan McGregor, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series is currently in development for Disney+ and has yet to receive a premiere date or title.
