Throughout multiple eras of Star Warsthe Skywalker family shaped the course of the galaxy with their choices and actions. From enslaving worlds to liberating civilizations, every member of the Skywalker lineage found themselves at the center of conflicts that encompassed entire systems of planets.

Although not all of these battles were resolved solely with the weapon of the Jedi Knights, the lightsabers of the Skywalker family played an integral role in their journeys and connection to the Force. Looking back over the Skywalker Saga, let's revisit each of the Skywalker family lightsabers within the canon.

Anakin's First Lightsaber

Sharing a nearly identical look to the most famous entry on this list, Anakin Skywalker actually wielded another lightsaber at the start of his time as a Jedi. Seen in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, Anakin trained with this blade under the tutelage of Obi-Wan Kenobi and used it to protect Padmé Amidala from the assassination attempts of the Separatists. This lightsaber also held its own dark history, being used in the massacre of the Sandpeople after his mother's death. The weapon met its destruction in the factories of Geonosis, where it was crushed by the tools of the droid factory's assembly line in Anakin's rescue attempt of Obi-Wan.

Anakin's Blue Lightsaber (The "Skywalker Lightsaber")

Anakin Skywalker with his lightsaber from Revenge of the Sith

Built at the onset of the Clone Wars, the classic blue lightsaber of Anakin Skywalker would be at the center of some of his greatest victories. It would also be the lightsaber used in Anakin's fall to the Dark Side, as it was used to kill Jedi and Younglings alike in Order 66. Also known as the "Skywalker Lightsaber," this is the first lightsaber used by both Luke Skywalker and Rey at the beginning of their journeys as Jedi. This weapon was used in some of their greatest battles throughout all of Star Wars, whether the duel on Bespin City or Rey's final confrontation with her grandfather. It was finally laid to rest in Luke's childhood home.

Darth Vader's Lightsaber

After losing his blue lightsaber in the duel with Obi-Wan on Mustafar, the Emporer forced Darth Vader to create a new Sith lightsaber. Sent to kill Jedi Master Kirak Infil'a, Vader took the Jedi's Kyber crystal and corrupted it with the Dark Side of the Force, giving it a blood-red color. While it slightly changed through the years -- due to Vader's constant modifications -- this lightsaber left a trail of death behind it as Vader violently served the Empire. Killing Obi-Wan and taking the hand of his son with it, the lightsaber was eventually disposed of by Luke on the second Death Star before his father's redemption.

Luke's Yellow Lightsaber

Only recently introduced in Marvel's continuing exploration of the events following Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, Luke found this yellow lightsaber at an abandoned Jedi outpost on Tempes. As he had lost his father's weapon at Cloud City, along with his hand, Luke was in need of a new lightsaber. At this point, Luke was still not ready to build his own, so he took a lightsaber that had once belonged to one of the Jedi Temple guards. Although it is not known what happened to the lightsaber, Luke used this weapon to defend the Rebellion in its most dire moments.

Luke's Green Lightsaber

Unveiled during Han Solo's rescue from Jabba's Palace, Luke's own green lightsaber would be used at his side for his greatest triumphs and his ultimate fall. With this lightsaber, Luke was able to defeat many of the remaining factions of Imperial Forces that continued to fight past the Emperor's fall. He also used it in his rescue of Grogu and Din Djarin from Moff Gideon's Dark Troopers. This lightsaber represented Luke at the height of his powers as a Jedi. Unfortunately, it was also the weapon that Luke ignited when he sensed his nephew's descent into the Dark Side. When this happened, Luke lost everything -- including his lightsaber.

Leia's Lightsaber

Upon learning that Luke was her twin brother, Leia also realized that she shared in his Force abilities. She began to train as a Jedi and built a lightsaber resembling the one Luke lost on Bespin. During her training, she crafted her own Jedi tool, probably taking inspiration from the weapon that Luke had lost on Bespin. However, after sensing her son's potential doom from her path as a Jedi, Leia returned fully to politics and gave her lightsaber to Luke. Luke would then pass the blade to Rey before her battle on Exegol. Afterwards, Leia's lightsaber joined the "Skywalker Lightsaber" in being buried at the Lars' former moisture farm.

Ben Solo's Lightsaber

Like his grandfather, Ben Solo was destined to become a Jedi. While training at Luke's school of potential Force-users, Ben built his own lightsaber and used it on many missions across the galaxy. After being corrupted by Snoke and believing that Luke had tried to kill him, Ben went on the run and used the lightsaber to defend himself against the other surviving Jedi students of Luke Skywalker. The blade's final battle was with Ren. After killing him, Ben Solo became Kylo Ren, the new leader of the Knights of Ren, and constructed a new weapon.

Kylo Ren's Lightsaber

Kylo Ren's double-hilted lightsaber led the rise of the First Order. Forged from the remnants of Ben Solo's original lightsaber, this new weapon used a cracked Kyber crystal as its energy source, resulting in its crackling and unstable energy output. Perhaps its greatest victim was Kylo's own father, Han Solo, who died trying to help his son. As the Supreme Leader after Snoke's death, he wielded this weapon in many battles against Rey and other members of the Resistance. The lightsaber lost in the ocean on Kef Bir when Ben Solo finally returned to the light and threw away the weapon that had taken his father's life.

Rey's Lightsaber

While not sharing any bloodline relations with the Skywalker family, the end of the Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Rise of Skywalker makes it evident that Rey will continue the Skywalker name in this new era of the galaxy. After burying both the "Skywalker Lightsaber" and Leia's lightsaber -- two weapons that proved vital to the war -- Rey revealed her own constructed lightsaber, appearing similar to the ones used by the Jedi Temple Guards. Hopefully, with time, this lightsaber will come to represent a new time of peace and prosperity for the galaxy, as well as setting the stage for more Jedi to follow Rey's example.
