A new rumor claims Eternals director Chloé Zhao will helm the mysterious Star Wars film from Marvel Studios President/Marvel Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige.

One Take News reports that Zhao is in final talks to direct the movie, though the outlet also notes the deal may already be done.

In September 2019, it was announced that Feige would produce and develop a Star Wars movie with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. "We are excited about the projects Kathy and the Lucasfilm team are working on, not only in terms of Star Wars but also Indiana Jones and reaching into other parts of the company including Children of Blood and Bone with Emma Watts and Fox," then-Walt Disney Studios Chief Creative Officer Alan Horn said. "With the close of the Skywalker Saga, Kathy is pursuing a new era in Star Wars storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a Star Wars film together."

Since then, there's been little movement on the project, save for the addition of Loki writer Michael Waldron. Even Feige himself has repeatedly played coy when asked about the film. "We’re thinking that we’re not — that is, um — everything you’ve heard about that has [been] leaked," he said in January. "It’s not stuff that we’ve officially announced or gotten into. So, suffice to say, the focus is on all the number of Marvel things we’re working on. The what, where, when and how of that [Star Wars movie], I don’t know. I’m excited for The Book of Boba Fett, and the Rogue One show, and the Obi-Wan show, and Patty’s movie, and Taika’s movie. [Smiles] After Thor: Love and Thunder, of course."

As for Zhao, she made it clear in October that she'd love to venture from Marvel Studios to Lucasfilm for a Star Wars project. "Yes. Let’s just say, it’s a world I have so much reverence for because it was such an important part of my life," she answered when asked about whether she'd be open to helming a Star Wars movie.

This rumor comes just one day after it was announced that the next Star Wars movie, Rogue Squadron, has been delayed indefinitely due to director Patty Jenkins' schedule.
