In Star Wars, the Jedi Order's ban on marriage for its members has always been a controversial rule that many Jedi have treated as "negotiable." Anakin Skywalker is the most popular example of this, having secretly married his childhood friend Padmé Amidala in a ceremony that only a few people (and droids) knew about. In Legends continuity, Anakin wasn't the only Jedi falling in love during the Clone Wars.

Etain Tur-Mukan was a human Jedi Knight that lived during and took part in the Clone Wars. During an early assignment as a Padawan with her Jedi Master Kast Fulier, Etain met the clone commandos of the Omega Squad, an encounter that changed how the rest of her life played out. Darman Skirata, formally RC-1136, was a clone commando of Omega Squad that Etain later fell in love with as the Clone Wars continued.

Star Wars Clone Commandos

Their first encounter wasn't a pleasant one, with Etain mistaking Darman for a Mandalorian mercenary that killed her master due to the design of his clone armor, but they straightened things out before long. During their time together on the planet Qiilura, Etain grew close with Darman and the other clones of Omega Squad, though she felt bad for the clones, whose only purpose in life was to fight and inevitably die for the Republic.

Prior to her mission, Etain was not confident in her skills as a Jedi, having a weaker connection to the Force than other Jedi. It was through her time acting as a commanding officer for Omega Squad and her budding friendship with Darman that allowed Etain to grow confident in her abilities as a Jedi and as a leader. After successfully completing her mission on Qiilura, Etain rose to the rank of Jedi Knight. She decided to leave the planet to avoid developing her relationship with Darman. However, she could not resist asking him come with her, though he decided against it in order to remain with Omega Squad.

Star Wars Coruscant

The two eventually reunited on another mission to destroy Confederate terrorist cells stationed on Coruscant. Over the course of this mission, Etain gave in to her romantic feelings for Darman, culminating in her becoming pregnant with his child. She confided her pregnancy to the leader of the mission, Mandalorian clone instructor, Kal Skirata. He told her to keep the pregnancy secret from Darman as to not distract him in battle. Kal then arranged for Etain to return to Qiilura, where she could give birth outside the eyes of the Republic or the Jedi Order, fearing what either might do should they learn of the child's existence. Kal knew Etain's child had to be raised as a Mandalorian to keep the boy's identity safe.

Etain knew that as a Jedi, she would be unable to take part in her child's life. She dreamed of a time after the Clone Wars when she and Darman could raise their child in peace together. Ultimately, Etain made the decision to leave the Order after the Clone Wars, in part due to her disagreement with how clones were treated by the Republic. She went on to give birth to the Force-sensitive boy Venku Skirata. Kal later called the boy Kad Skirata in private, due to "Kad" being the name Darman said he'd give a son.

Returning to Coruscant, Etain revealed the truth about their son to Darman, who was initially angry about having the truth kept from him. The two later reconciled and were married according to Mandalorian tradition. It was the beginning of their new life as a family.

That is, until Order 66 started. The new family's plan was to defect from the Grand Army and live on Mandalore with Clan Skirata. Unfortunately for Etain, Order 66 was initiated and she did not know that this was the end of the Jedi Order orchestrated by a Sith Lord. Her only awareness of the situation was a rumor circulating that Jedi Master Mace Windu had attempted to assassinate Supreme Chancellor Palpatine.

A Jedi wielding a blue lightsaber is surrounded by 501st Legion Clone Troopers

The newlywed mother met her end attempting to stop a Jedi Padawan from killing a clone trooper of the 501st Legion. The Padawan's lightsaber cut her from shoulder to spine, making her death near-instant. Darman witnessed his wife's death and almost went insane. Even sadder, their son sensed his mother's death through the Force and screamed for five minutes as she died.

Darman refused to leave behind a wounded clone, which cost him the opportunity to leave Coruscant and raise Venku. He went on to be an Imperial commando while Kal took Venku to Mandalore. There, Bardan Jusik, a Jedi Knight who left the order and joined the Mandalorians prior to Order 66, agreed to teach Venku about the Force. Venku carried on his parents' legacies as a Mandalorian who was strong in the ways of the Force.
