WARNING: The following article may contain potential spoilers for Star Wars: Episode IX, out in theaters on December 20, 2019.

According to a new rumor, Star Wars: Episode IX may being taking inspiration for 2005's Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith for its themes and plot points.

Just as Episode III had the Jedi search for a traitor within the Republic orchestrating the Clone Wars revealed to be Sith Lord Chancellor Palpatine, the upcoming Star Wars film will reportedly see Kylo Ren searching for a traitor within the First Order secretly aiding the Resistance against them.

The rumors then indicate the First Order traitor may actually be General Hux who is feeding the Resistance information. Given that Domhnall Gleeson expressed concerns he may accidentally reveal key plot points from the latest Star Wars film when principal photography began this past summer, the concerns appear to be even more founded if the rumors about his character are true.

Kylo Ren and Hux have also been at odds since their introduction in 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens with Hux even briefly considering killing the dark Jedi in last year's The Last Jedi. If true, this new character arc adds a whole new layer to their mutual rivalry.
