Longtime Star Wars fans have been going through a gauntlet of emotions thanks to Disney and Lucasfilm's The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. The new movies saw the return of the original trilogy's most beloved characters in Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, but the fan-favorites also have found heartbreaking ends. For that reason, it seemed as if there wouldn't be any characters left from the original films to carry the torch -- but that may not appear to be the case anymore.

The now-trusted Star Wars daily news fansite Fantha Tracks claims their sources have confirmed that Billy Dee Williams will return in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode IX to reprise his role as the ever-cool Lando Calrissian.

The rumor makes a whole lot of sense, given that, a few months ago, the 81-year old actor revealed that he was training three times a week and following a new diet plan. On top of that, Donald Glover recently brought a young Lando to life on the screen in the spinoff film Solo: A Star Wars Story, proving that there was indeed a renewed interest in the character.

Having Lando play an important role in Star Wars: Episode IX would be a great way for the film to continue exploring the legacy aspect of the saga. But most importantly, it might be enough for fans who were left disappointed by The Last Jedi to get excited for the last installment in this new trilogy.
