After a flurry of recent casting announcements for Star Wars: Episode IX, a new rumor has emerged teasing a comedic female role.

That Hashtag Show is reporting J.J. Abrams' finale to the new Star Wars trilogy is casting for a woman 27-35 years old to play a role tentatively named Karina. The site described the role as “a younger Charlize Theron with street smarts and a sharp wit," with the character having an open ethnicity along with "a good sense of humor, solid comedic timing and a strong voice."

In April there was a rumor that Abrams and casting director Nina Gold were looking for a 40-50 year old to play a lead character named Mara. The rumor prompted much speculation that Luke Skywalker’s wife in the expanded universe, Mara Jade, could make her way to the big screen, but so far there has been no additional news on that front.

Abrams and Gold are on a casting spree recently, with the additions of Dominic Monaghan and Matt Smith, as well as the return of Greg Grunberg. The film started production on August 1, but it’s still a mystery as to how the new additions will fit in. The next Star Wars Celebration is in April 2019, so we may not hear any substantial story-related news until then.

After the addition of the hopeful Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran) in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, any new inclusions to the series are highly anticipated. Though Tran had to leave social media due to bullying from fans, she still had a vital role in the film. Disney will look to continue that trend with both Karina and Mara, if their character breakdowns turn out to be true.
