Key art for Disney+'s Star Wars limited series Obi-Wan Kenobi has surfaced, offering a glimpse at the legendary Jedi Master post-Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. The official Star Wars Twitter account posted the image, which shows a breathtaking scene of Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) wandering alone among sand dunes as Tatooine's suns shine behind him. The Jedi appears to be holding an object in his right hand that bears a resemblance to a lightsaber hilt. In the same vein, the second "I" in the series' logo also takes the shape of the character's established lightsaber handle.Related: Kenobi Concept Art Confirms a Grim Tone for Star Wars’ Most Beloved Jedi Master

Along with the key art, a May 25 premiere was announced for the series. The date coincides with the 45th anniversary of the original Star Wars film's theatrical release in 1977 -- likely an intentional move from Disney and Star Wars.

Obi-Wan Kenobi was officially announced in 2019 after years of rumor and speculation. At the time, McGregor called the announcement "a fucking relief," saying he'd had to keep the secret of his return since 2015. Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse are also coming back as Owen and Beru Lars, but the most talked-about reprisal will be Hayden Christensen as the ill-fated Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. All four actors' last Star Wars appearances were in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, which was released in 2005. Obi-Wan Kenobi will take place 10 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith as the character watches over Luke Skywalker on Tatooine.

The role of Obi-Wan was first established by veteran actor Alec Guinness, who played an aged Obi-Wan in A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. McGregor took up the role in the prequel films The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. While Guinness's take on the character was formative, McGregor's charm and vigor added a new dimension to the Jedi that was well received by fans. Some consider McGregor's performance in the prequels to be the highlight of the trilogy.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is set to be a limited series, meaning it will stream for just one season. The show's six episodes, all of which were written by Joby Harold (Army of the Dead) and directed by Deborah Chow (The Mandalorian), will stream weekly starting May 25 on Disney+.
