Disney+ released a new Star Wars promo for The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. The promo begins by reminding fans that it's been two years since The Mandalorian premiered as Disney+'s flagship series. After two seasons, the story spilled into The Book of Boba Fett for the back half of what may or may not be the only season of the spinoff.RELATED: Book of Boba Fett's Best Move Wasn't the Mando Crossover - It Was Skipping Han Solo

Since the conclusion of the sequel trilogy with The Rise of Skywalker, it does very much seem as though The Mandalorian is the center of the Star Wars Universe. In addition to The Book of Boba Fett, the show spawned the upcoming Ahsoka spinoff, which will see Rosario Dawson reprise her role as the eponymous fallen Jedi in the post-Return of the Jedi timeline. Another spinoff -- Rangers of the New Republic -- was set to join Ahsoka, though it's since been scrapped.

"We'd never written any scripts or anything on that," Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said in November 2021 regarding Rangers of the New Republic. "Some of that will figure into future episodes, I'm sure, of the next iteration of Mandalorian." While details about the show were scarce, it was expected to star Gina Carano's Cara Dune, with the actor's firing by Lucasfilm reportedly resulting in the whole series being axed.

As for why these grittier and more intimate Star Wars shows are resonating so strongly with fans, writer Marc Guggenheim recently explained that "what people are responding to is something that’s always been inherent in Star Wars, namely, that it’s a big galaxy. There is enormous room for stories that don’t involve Rebels, stormtroopers, Skywalkers, or Jedi. The Mandolorian and The Book of Boba Fett just serve to illustrate this point."

Other upcoming Staw Wars projects on Disney+ include Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, The Acolyte, Lando Season 2 of The Bad Batch and, of course, Season 3 of The Mandalorian. While Season 2 ended with Grogu leaving Din Djarin to begin training in the ways of the Jedi with Luke Skywalker, The Book of Boba Fett reunited the de factor father and son.

It's unclear when fans can expect to see more Mandalorian, but one report suggested Season 3 might be targeting a Christmas 2022 premiere date. This would mark a full two-year window between Seasons 2 and 3, despite The Book of Boba Fett being viewed by many as a Mandalorian Season 2.5 at times.
