The Star Wars sequel trilogy shade is strong with this one.

In this case, the "one" in question is Disney+ Latinoamérica, which hopped aboard the recent Twitter trend of sharing a statement followed by a number of red flag emojis to signify that those words should be cause for concern. "La última trilogía de Star Wars es la mejor," the account tweeted, which translates to "The latest Star Wars trilogy is the best."

After Disney purchased Lucasfilm in 2012, development began on a new trilogy of films. The first of these, The Force Awakens, released in 2015 to stellar reviews and record-breaking box office numbers. However, the film also received heavy criticism for being something of a rehash of 1977's A New Hope.

Two years later, The Last Jedi was released, driving a massive wedge in the Star Wars fanbase. While the movie was overwhelmingly adored by critics, countless fans picked it apart for the characterization of Luke Skywalker (a Jedi Knight whose guilt turned him into a recluse), for failing to address any of the questions raised in the prior film (such as Supreme Leader Snoke's identity or Rey's lineage) and for the introduction of characters such as Rose Tico and Grand Admiral Holdo.

In 2019, Disney released the final film in the sequel trilogy and the greater Skywalker saga, the aptly titled The Rise of Skywalker. For those who loved The Last JediEpisode IX seemed like a course correction meant to undo the controversial aspects of its predecessor. However, most fans were simply frustrated that the movie seemed to confirm their suspicions that Lucasfilm went into the sequel trilogy with no clear roadmap of where it should go, citing the surprise return of the famously dead Palpatine as evidence.

While it's been nearly two full years since the sequel trilogy concluded, the future certainly looks bright for Star Wars fans. On the television side, there's Season 3 of The Mandalorian, Season 2 of The Bad Batch and the premieres of AhsokaAndorObi-Wan KenobiLandoRangers of the New Republic and The Acolyte, while upcoming films include Rogue Squadron and a pair of untitled movies from Taika Waititi and Kevin Feige. There's also the Rian Johnson-led Star Wars trilogy, which Johnson himself said in February was still on the table.
