After almost a decade since its 2012 trailer released, an episode from the unaired Star Wars: Detours show was leaked online. Before filmmaker George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney, he was creating an animated, oddball-comedy series set between the events of Return of the Sith and A New Hope. The creative team behind Robot Chicken worked with Lucas on the series. However, any news of its release evaporated once Disney acquired Lucasfilm.

Eight years later, 39 episodes (two full seasons) of the show exist as well as 62 completed scripts, but no episode was ever released. Recently, Reddit changed this fact.

"Dog Day Afternoon" is the title of the full episode that was leaked online on Nov. 29. The episode features the voice acting of Weird Al Yankovic and Andy Richter as 4-LOM and Zuckus, two wannabe bounty hunters who hold the staff and customers of Dex's Diner hostage to impress the Bounty Hunters' Guild. The high-stakes combination of robbery, ransom and insurance fraud are neatly wrapped up in the 6-minute long episode, with a few cameos from familiar characters thrown in for good measure, including Jar Jar Binks, Boba Fett and Lando Calrissian.

The tone of the show is goofy and slapstick, but its jokes are skewed towards a more adult audience, with clumsy Jar Jar (aka Mr. Slapstick) gags interspersed with jokes about Boba Fett's one-night-stands. The unofficial episode was released on the StarWarsLeaks subreddit and was flooded with comments of happy surprise and renewed interest in the series. Fans of the show remarked on the series' apparent return from the dead and expressed aggravation that the show has yet to be properly released on Disney+.

However, at the time of this writing, Reddit's Legal team has removed the video from its site.

The original idea for the series arrived after Robot Chicken’s hugely-successful iconic Star Wars special caught the attention of George Lucas, inspiring him to create more work within this comedic vein. Lucas alumni Anthony Daniels, Ahmed Best and Billy Dee Williams reprised their roles alongside comedians Weird Al Yankovic, Joel McHale and Seth McFarlane.

There are no confirmed Disney+ plans to release Star Wars: Detours on its streaming service.
