Switzerland-based company Kross Studio has teamed up with LucasFilm to create a $150,000 limited edition Death Star watch.
The 10-piece Death Star Ultimate Collector Set from Kross Studio comes with an authentic kyber crystal prop from the film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, as well as a Death Star Tourbillon watch. "Faithful to the film storytelling, the container safeguards the precious elements inside," said Kross Studio in a press release. "The Death Star Tourbillon watch, its set of straps and the kyber crystal are therefore secured in an official reproduction of those famous orange containers used by the Galactic Empire."
The set comes with an Imperial kyber crystal container designed and assembled -- by hand -- to look like armored crates used to transport the crystals in the Star Wars universe. The designers at Kross Studio constructed more than 700 parts, which were also hand-painted to capture the look and feel of the containers from the films.
The watch's containers were also scaled down to half the dimensions of those used in the original Star Wars film, which also comes with ample storage space that allows fans to store their favorite memorabilia. According to Kross Studio, the container is divided into nine storage units and has three interior sections that secure three removable capsules. One of the capsules holds the Death Star Tourbillon watch and the other holds two additional watch straps. The final capsule in the set contains the original kyber crystal movie prop.
The designers at Kross Studio tasked themselves with developing a "manual-winding mechanical movement" that captured the "rare mechanical complication" of the Death Star, so the Death Star Tourbillon watch is subsequently comprised of 281 individual components. Its design comes with a peripheral display that allows the hands to orbit the tourbillon at 360 degrees. The watch's casing is also comprised of black DLC coated 5-grade titanium and comes with three interchangeable straps.
The limited-edition Death Star Ultimate Collector Set is currently on sale on the Kross Studio website with the option for customers to book an e-meeting to see a presentation of the full product.
