With The Mandalorian introducing the mysterious Darksaber to a wider audience, the connections between the Jedi and the Mandalorians have never been more important. The Darksaber was created by Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian ever inducted into the Jedi order. Tarre Vizsla wore Mandalorian armor as a Jedi, as all of his people did, but he wasn't the only Jedi to wear Mandalorian armor -- nor is he the most famous.

That honor goes to Darth Revan, the fan-favorite character from Bioware's beloved video game Knights of the Old Republic. Revan is perhaps the most popular character in Star Wars, who hasn't crossed into the current canon. The closest he comes is being referenced in The Rise of Skywalker as the namesake of the Sith Eternal army's 3rd Legion. Darth Revan was not only known as a feared opponent of the Mandalorian people but is often depicted in a Mandalorian mask.

The story of Revan's mask and how he obtained it was explained in Dark Horse's Knights of the Old Republic #42 by John Jackson Miller, Ron Chan, and Michael Atiyeh. The mask belonged to a Mandalorian woman on Cathar during the Mandalorian Wars. She took part in the Battle of Cathar under Cassus Fett. The woman knew that Fett was going to commit genocide on the Cathar people and tried to convince Fett to spare them. However, Fett's mind was made up and he slaughtered the woman along with the Cathar people.

Ten years later, Revan, his friend Malak and their faction of Jedi were on Cathar looking for evidence of the atrocity committed by the Mandalorians. Revan discovered the mask and when the light shone on it all the Jedi present shared a vision of the atrocity. After seeing what happened ten years earlier, Revan donned the mask in honor of the Mandalorian woman who had tried to defend the Cathar people. Revan vowed not to remove the mask until he had defeated the Mandalorians and brought them to justice.

Revan wore the mask throughout the Mandalorian Wars and past their defeat at the Battle of Malachor, despite the vow he made to remove it once the war was won. When the Jedi became Darth Revan, falling to the Dark Side and declaring his own Sith Empire with Malak, he continued wearing the helmet. Very few knew what Revan actually looked like, only knowing him for his reputation as a ruthless Sith and the mask that accompanied that reputation.

The Jedi eventually captured Revan and implanted him with an entirely different personality and memories. However, Bastilla Shan, who led the Jedi that captured Revan, secretly recovered the mask and hid it. Shan feared that if the former Sith Lord ever saw the mask he would regain his memories as a Sith Lord and fall to the Dark Side once again.

Revan was given the mask again by a Jedi Exile named Meetra Surik and did indeed regain all his memories. However, the mask would change hands a number of times after this. After Revan's defeat at the hands of the Sith Emperor, the mask remained in the possession of the Sith for a number of years. It would eventually fall into the hands of Revanites, a cult that worshipped the Sith Lord, who gave it back to Revan. The mask was damaged in a near-fatal confrontation with a Sith strike team, creating a slash mark on the left side. However, Revan, or rather the dark half of his spirit that hadn't become one with the Force, continued to wear it until he finally fell at the hands of Republic and Imperial champions on Yavin.
