Darth Maul is one of the highlights of the Prequel Trilogy. Although he died in The Phantom Menace he was brought back to life by popular demand during Star Wars: The Clone WarsHe was an intense character who wielded the power of the dark side with ease.

Not many Star Wars characters can compare to the raw power that Maul possessed, and those that did posed a big threat to his goals. Darth Maul is easily one of the most loved and most powerful characters in the Star Wars franchise.

8 Ezra Bridger Fell Prey To Maul At First, Then Outdid Him

Darth Maul and Ezra Bridger arrive on Dathomir Star Wars Rebels

Ezra Bridger was the young Jedi apprentice introduced in Star Wars: Rebels. He was training under Kanan Jarrus but he fell prey to Maul's deceptions and believed him to be a teacher also. Of course, Maul ultimately betrayed Ezra but it was Ezra who ended up on top.

While Maul was consumed with greed and vengeance, Ezra's powers grew and he looked for ways to help the galaxy. While he was lost to the unknown reaches of space at the end of Rebels, fans are hoping he will return in live-action for the Ahsoka show

7 Kanan Jarrus Duelled Maul Until It Cost Him His Vision

Kanan vs Maul

When Maul turned on Ezra, Kanan was there to protect him. Maul is extremely powerful, but Kanan isn't washed up. He went toe-to-toe with the Sith Lord and matched him in skill and power.

Ultimately, though, Kanan faltered and Maul seared his eyes, causing Kanan to go blind. While Kanan was a strong Jedi in his own right, Maul fought dirty and was hardened from years of cruelty.

6 General Grievous Was Formidable But Lacked The Use Of The Force

General Grievous

General Grievous was one of the villains of Revenge of the Sith and fans were blown away when he showed that he was able to wield four lightsabers simultaneously. Obi-Wan duelled him and won, even managing to disarm him.

If Maul and Grievous had fought each other, there is no doubt Maul would have won. Even if they were matched with their lightsaber skills, Maul had the Force on his side and he was a powerful Force-user. This was also Grievous' undoing when he fought Obi-Wan.

5 Count Dooku Was A Skilled Duelist & Powerful Force-User

Count Dooku was the Sith Lord that joined forces with Palpatine after Darth Maul's initial death. He was a former Jedi and he was trained by Yoda. He was considered to be an expert duelist amongst the Jedi. This proved true when he fought Anakin and Obi-Wan and won, then fought Yoda to a tie.

Maul's only advantage might have been his raw power generated from his intense emotions. While Maul was fuelled by rage and fury, Dooku kept a much calmer demeanor.

4 Both Anakin Skywalker & Darth Vader Could Have Taken Care Of Maul

Anakin becoming darth vader

Anakin Skywalker was one of the strongest Jedi in the films and Darth Vader was one of the best Sith. It only makes sense that they both could have decimated Darth Maul if they faced him. At the peak of Anakin's power, he was able to take on Count Dooku and win, and went toe-to-toe with Obi-Wan on Mustafar.

Darth Vader's power is perfectly shown in the iconic hallway scene from Rogue One. Both versions of this character have the strength to be on par and possibly even stronger than Darth Maul.

3 Ahsoka Tano Dealt With Maul On Mandalore

Ahsoka Fighting Maul in Mandalore Throne Room

When Maul took over Mandalore, it was Ahsoka Tano who went to drive him out. She succeeded in capturing him only to be foiled by Order 66. When Ezra and Kanan needed help against Maul, once again, Ahsoka stepped in and came to the rescue.

Every iteration of Ahsoka is more powerful than the last, she is one of the few characters who can outclass Maul at every turn, from lightsaber skills to Force abilities, Ahsoka has him beat. She is definitely one of the most powerful characters in the Star Wars canon.

2 Obi-Wan Kenobi Was His Life-Long Adversary

Darth Maul Lightsaber Duel With Ben Kenobi

Obi-Wan versus Darth Maul is one of the biggest rivalries in Star Wars. Fans have enjoyed this pairing from their first moment in The Phantom Menace until their last in Star Wars: Rebels. Watching Maul be consumed by his hatred of Kenobi and Obi-Wan stopping him at almost every turn has been a highlight of the modern Star Wars era.

Kenobi and Maul are two of the most evenly matched characters, but Obi-Wan always manages to come out on top. They end their rivalry as respected adversaries with Obi-Wan being the ultimate victor.

1 Emperor Palpatine Trained Maul

Palpatine vs maul and savage

Darth Maul was Emperor Palpatine's first apprentice, but far from his last. Palpatine helped Maul grow his powers and follow the path of the dark side. Then Palpatine tossed him aside in favor of newer apprentices.

Darth Maul thought he could bring Palpatine down with the help of Savage Oppress, but they were sorely mistaken. Palpatine wiped the floor with them both, showing Maul that he was a shadow of who he once was and that Palpatine will always be greater than he is.
