Star Wars writer Gary Whitta said he'll put in a good word with Dave Filoni and try to get Danny Trejo a part in The Mandalorian.

Whitta spoke to Trejo on his Animal Talking podcast (via Twitch) and championed the actor for a role in Disney+'s live-action Star Wars series. "I don't have any clout at Lucasfilm, but let me tell you something, if I could wave a magic wand right now, Danny Trejo as a badass bounty hunter in the Star Wars universe. I think a lot of people would want to see that." Whitta added, "I'm going to call Filoni after the show, we're going to get him on."

Trejo praised Whitta for his work on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and putting the first Mexican in space with Diego Luna's role as Cassian Andor. The pair also joked that Trejo in The Mandalorian should be called "The Mexilorian."

Aside from Rogue One, Whitta wrote four episodes of Star Wars Rebels. However, that's where his work in the galaxy far, far away ends. Still, he seems to be on speaking terms with Filoni.

As for Trejo, he has an impressive CV that lends itself to the Old West vibe of The Mandalorian. With Trejo just celebrating his 76th birthday, he's still a huge action star and previously starred in everything from Breaking Bad to Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Trejo also famously led Robert Rodriguez's two Machete movies. With Rodriguez signed on to direct an episode of The Mandalorian Season 2, it isn't too much of a jump to imagine Trejo as part of the ensemble.

Season 1 of The Mandalorian starred Pedro Pascal as the titular Mandalorian and had a large ensemble cast that included Carl Weathers as a grizzled bounty hunter from Din Djarin's past. Ming-Na Wen's Fennec Shand was another memorable bounty hunter from the first run of episodes, and there are plans for many more in Season 2. Aside from Michael Biehn and Timothy Olyphant joining the show in undisclosed rolesAttack of the Clones' Temuera Morrison is suiting up as the iconic Boba Fett.

Created by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito. Season 1 is available now on Disney+, with Season 2 premiering in October.
