Despite playing the lead role of Rey in three of the biggest movies in recent years, Daisy Ridley struggled to find work immediately after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's release.

"Weirdly, at the beginning of the year nothing was coming through," Ridley told Entertainment Weekly. She went on to explain, "There were actually loads of things that I auditioned for at the beginning of the year and didn't get any of them." She added, "I had that moment of 'Oh my god!' and then just thought 'everything in its right time." According to Ridley, "things started picking up" for her job opportunities by March.

Prior to playing Rey in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Ridley scored her earliest acting credits on short films like Blue Season as well as TV shows such as Mr. Selfridge. In the wake of her work in Star Wars, Ridley appeared in somewhat larger productions such as Murder in the Orient Express and Ophelia, while also providing voice work for Peter Rabbit and the English-language dub of Only Yesterday. Her upcoming acting credits include the film Chaos Walking and the video game 12 Minutes.

Directed and co-written by J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Keri Russell, Anthony Daniels, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams and Carrie Fisher, with Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant. The film is now available on Digital HD, Blu-ray, 4K UHD and Disney+.
