Daisy Ridley doesn't know if her character Rey Skywalker will ever return to Star Wars, but she'd be happy to keep playing the role.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Ridley reflected on filming the sequel trilogy and growing alongside her character throughout The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. She was asked if she'd want to return to Rey's story at some point in the future, much like how the sequel trilogy continued the stories of Luke, Han and Leia as they grew older. "Honestly, I have no idea," Ridley said. "I feel like Rey’s story ended in a wonderful way with [The Rise of Skywalker]. It’s already been an insane three years since that film came out. I feel like quite a different person... So I really don’t know if there are plans. I just don’t know."

However, even if Rey's character arc was wrapped up during Rise of Skywalker in 2019, Ridley would be open to returning just because she enjoyed filming the movies so much. "But ultimately, I loved my experience, I loved what I got to do and I love the people I got to work with," she said. "So, should that happen again, even once, amazing. Because the dream is to really be around nice people that make you feel good and feel heard while you do good work."

Rey's Journey Through Star Wars

Ridley has made similar comments in the past, alongside other actors from the sequel trilogy. During the 2022 BAFTAs, Ridley said "I'll always be Rey" and suggested she'd like to wield a lightsaber again. Oscar Isaac, who played hotshot pilot Poe Dameron, has also said he's "open to anything" regarding future Star Wars projects. These opinions have changed over time, as several cast members were initially resistant to the idea shortly after Rise of Skywalker came out. Back then, Isaac said he felt burnt out from Star Wars and wanted to pursue other projects.

Currently, Disney and Lucasfilm have two untitled Star Wars films scheduled for Dec. 2025 and Dec. 2027. At this time, they haven't officially disclosed what those two movies will be about. However, filmmaker Taika Waititi is currently developing his own Star Wars movie, after directing an episode of The Mandalorian and voicing the show's bounty hunter droid IG-11. Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins is signed on for a Rogue Squadron film.

Until 2025, new Star Wars projects will be limited to Disney+ shows, unless any new announcements are made. The Mandalorian's third season premieres on March 1, while its spinoff The Book of Boba Fett and the critically acclaimed Andor will both be getting second seasons.
