WARNING: The following contains spoilers from Star Wars Adventures: Ghost of Vader’s Castle #3, on sale now from IDW Publishing.

In The Empire Strikes Back, Luke’s negative first impression of Dagobah was to be expected due to the inherent creepiness of Yoda's home planet. In Star Wars Adventures: Ghosts of Vader’s Castle (by Cavan Scott, Francesco Francavilla, Derek Charm, and Charlie Kirchoff), Dagobah becomes the setting for the series’ latest nightmare, and with Yoda gone it becomes the perfect setting.

“Dangers on Dagobah” focuses on Hudd and Skritt as they rewire on old Imperial base on the Inner Rim planet of Karken so that the New Republic can move in. As they talk, Skritt reminisces about days past when action and adventure were more readily available. Hudd, on the other hand, doesn’t even like the subject of adventure. He reminds his partner that his last taste of excitement was when he was tortured at Vader’s Castle by the maniacal Vaneé. Hudd then explains that he hasn’t been sleeping much because of a nightmare that he recounts to Skritt.

Vader Castle Comic Dagobah Swamp Monster

In his dream, Hudd is on a mission with Luke Skywalker looking for Jedi artifacts, and he’s surprised when the Jedi lands in the swamps of Dagobah. Luke assures him that everything is okay, but it’s not long before things are revealed to be anything but. Yoda’s hut has been destroyed, and they find a holo-recording of what happened. Some real estate company had come to Dagobah with hopes of developing it into a grand hotel experience. However, the recording ended with a monster attacking, explaining what destroyed the hut and why no one was currently on the planet.

Just then, a massive monster attacks, and Hudd is thrown into the swamp. While under water, he sees undead, skeletal versions of the crew that crashed on Mustafar with him in 2018's Tales from Vader’s Castle miniseries. When he emerges from the swamp, Luke is gone. Then Hudd spots a large snake hanging from a tree branch. To make matters worse, the snake’s head is Vaneé reminding him that no one can save him this time.

Star Wars Dagobah

Hudd’s only hope is to find Luke, but when he finds the Jedi, he appears to be undead and suspended from a branch. Somehow, Luke communicates that Hudd needs to take his lightsaber and scare the monster away. Hudd does that with a little help from a ghostly Yoda. After that Hudd and Luke – who is somehow no longer dead – walk off into the sunset.

After Hudd’s dream, Lena Graf and Jaxxon land on Karken to recruit Hudd and Skritt for the mission to rescue her brother Milo from Vaneé. With the old crew back together, it appears that the next issue will feature a return to Mustafar.
