"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" merchandise will be unveiled next week in an unprecedented worldwide unboxing event that will unfold live online over 18 hours in 15 cities and 12 countries. Think of it as New Year's Eve, only for "Star Wars" toys.
Hosted by the stars of Disney's Maker Studios network, the countdown to "Force Friday" -- Sept. 4, when stores around the world begin selling "The Force Awakens" products -- will kick off in Sydney, Australia, and continue around the globe.
The "Star Wars" YouTube channel will host the live stream, which begins in Sydney on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 2:45 p.m. PT, and concludes at Lucasfilm in San Francisco on Thursday, Sept. 3, at 8 a.m. PT. Each of the 15 cities will unveil a new product.
"'Star Wars' toys have always played an important role in how our fans interact with the Saga,” Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said in a statement. “They’ve inspired multiple generations to relive the experience of the movies and to create new adventures all their own. These spectacular 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' products will continue that tradition.”
