Much like its film brethren, The Clone Wars tells its best stories across many sagas. Sure, Clone Wars has a plethora of one-off episodes that stand well on their own, but its most memorable tales were told across multiple episodes.

Updated September 18th, 2020 by Ian Goodwillie: With the final season of The Clone Wars complete and the next season of The Mandalorian on the way, there are more great stories in the animated series worth revisiting. Some of them might even set up arcs in the new season of the journey of Din Djarin. Given Dave Filoni's involvement in both shows, that wouldn't be a surprise.

15 Yoda's Journey

Yoda Lightsaber

In the episodes closing out Season 6, Yoda went on a journey with R2-D2 in an attempt to learn more about the Clone Wars. Allowing the Force to guide him, he learned the awful truth about Palpatine's plans and the true machinations behind the conflict.

Yoda also realized that the future could not be changed, seeing that the battle had to be lost so the war could be won in the future. It was a heartbreaking end to the story at that point which was at least punctuated with dash of hope.

14 The Battle Of Mon Cala

Clones Gungans

One of the fiercest battles of the entire war took place on Mon Cala, the home world of the fan favorite character Admiral Ackbar. The Separatists played on the divide between the Mon Calamari and the Quarren to take control of the planet, pitting the two species against each other.

The Republic intervened, sending in the Clone Army with the backing of the Gungans. It was a unique series of episodes because they took place almost entirely under water, complicating the combat for the Clones and the Jedi.

13 The Siege Of Mandalore

Ahsoka Tano duels Maul on Mandalore

As the Clone Wars entered its final stages and Palpatine's trap began to close around the Jedi and the Republic, Maul reappeared. He had escaped the Emperor's clutches, then returned to Mandalore. He began to cause chaos as a means of calling out Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Instead, he got Ahsoka Tano, the 332nd Division of Clone Troopers, and a group of angry Mandalorians. The epic battle was only eclipsed by the reunion of Ahsoka and one of her closest friends, Captain Rex, a relationship that would continue into the Rebellion.

12 Boba's Revenge

Who doesn't love Boba Fett? Since his appearance in The Empire Strikes Back, he's become one of the most popular characters in the entire franchise. While his origin is explored in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, fans get to see him at work in Clone Wars' season 2's final episodes. The soon-to-be Greatest Bounty Hunter manages to infiltrate a Jedi Cruiser and take it down from the inside.

Now, he's teamed up with Bounty Hunter Aurra Sing and her crew to kill Mace Windu. Sure, we know that this won't go well for them, but seeing Boba's slow descent into the way of the Bounty Hunter makes for a compelling watch.

11 The Citadel Trilogy

In this action-packed three-parter, Master Even Piell was kidnapped by the Empire, forcing the heroes to attempt a rescue mission. The Jedi saved him, but then they had to escape from the prison.

Things got worse when there was bickering amongst the group, especially between Ahsoka and a young general Tarkin. Seeing the Jedi play cat-and-mouse with the Empire is always entertaining. Thanks to the plethora of action and stealth sequences, there was never a dull moment during this arc.

10 The Bad Batch

The opening arc in Clone Wars Season 7 just so happened to be one of the best featuring the Clone Troopers. When the republic tasked Anakin and Mace to defend the main Republic shipyard from Admiral Trench, they were sent back-up in the form of Clone Force 99, aka The Bad Batch.

The titular group doesn't act like your typical Troopers, featuring larger-than-life personalities that clash with Rex and his crew's no-nonsense military mindset. It was a brilliant arc because it showed that not all Clones were identical, though it did make fans wonder what happened to them during Order 66.

9 The Death Of The Nightsisters

General Grievous Asajj Ventress

After being fired by Dooku, Asajj Ventress attempted to assassinate her former mentor. First, she and some of the Nightsisters tried to take him out, followed by recruiting a new apprentice to kill him. Both strategies failed, inciting Dooku's wrath.

He sent General Grievous and an army of droids to Dathomir to wipe out the Nightsisters. Dooku was largely successful, leaving Ventress on her own and adrift in the galaxy. It set up her partial redemption when she assisted a fugitive Ahsoka on Coruscant.

8 The Mandalore Trilogy

Who doesn't love the Mandalorians? While it's easy to see them as nothing more than Bounty Hunters with a samurai-like code of honor, there's a lot more to them than that. In the Mandalore Trilogy, Obi-Wan was reunited with his former lover, Satine Kryze, the Queen of Mandalore.

Throughout the three-parter, Kryze's pacifist beliefs were pushed to the edge as a group of Mandalorians called the "Death Watch" attempted to kill her. It's an interesting change of pace to see a Mandalorian that doesn't want to destroy everything in sight, like Boba Fett or Mando, and she helps flesh out the race. It's also surprising to learn Obi-Wan of all people was romantically involved with someone. It's even more entertaining to see that old fire from his and Satine's relationship spark up again.

7 The Nightsister Trilogy

The Sith can only take failure for so long before they execute their apprentices. After Dooku failed to kill Asajj Ventress for her failures, she attempted to get revenge on her former teacher. So, she and the Nightsisters tested a group of Dathomirians to see who was worthy of becoming Asajj's understudy and infiltrate Dooku's command so that he can assassinate him.

It's a straight forward setup, but these episodes helped flesh Ventress and her kind out like never before, adding in-depth mythology to their race.

6 The Clone Conspiracy Arc

The Jedi reached their lowest point when Order 66 nearly caused their extinction. But one trooper knew about this before the order from the Emperor came down. When one of his men executed the order too soon, Fives began to dig deep and uncoverd the truth behind his fellow soldiers' assault on one of the Jedi.

This led to one of the more personal and tragic arcs in Clone Wars, as Fives was unable to convince his fellow Republic allies what was happening. The excellent writing and tense pacing kept things moving, and the ending hits hard.

5 Battle of Umbara

Before Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the Battle of Umbara was the conflict that emphasized the "War" in Star Wars. When Anakin gave command of Rex and his Clone Troopers to Pong Krell, the unit found out they were in for the fight of their lives.

Pong saw troopers as nothing more than commodities, tools to use to win battles rather than actual living beings. So, he threw them headfirst into battle after battle, damning the consequences. It made for some of the most intense battle scenes in Star Wars history. Not only were Rex and the gang put through hell but the Clones began to second-guess Pong, leading to a lot of internal conflicts

4 Ahsoka On The Run

Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker talking in Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Season 5's finale was a depressing way to end the original run of Clone Wars. After a Jedi was assassinated, Anakin and Ahsoka investigated. During an interrogation, Ahsoka was framed for murder and has to flee to prove her innocents.

Seeing the Jedi hunting Ahsoka was insane, and the episodes managed to incorporate elements from film-noir and classic sci-fi films, like Blade Runner and Logan's Run, while never feeling out of place. It took such a toll on Ahsoka that she eventually left the Jedi Order to go on a soul-searching journey.

3 Order 66

Ahsoka stands admist the graves of clones at the end of Star Wars: The Clone Wars

The final episodes of The Clone Wars happened at the same time in the chronology as the third prequel film, Revenge of the Sith. While Anakin's descent into becoming a Sith Lord was entering its final stages on Coruscant, Ahsoka was on her way back with a captured Maul.

Then, Order 66 kicked in and all of the Clones betrayed her, including Rex. Ahsoka was ultimately able to free Rex, and they escaped together, though the rest of the Clones perished. Maul also made his exit, setting up future confrontations with the Ahsoka, Ezra and Kanan on Rebels.

2 Maul's Return

When it was announced that Darth Maul would return, fans didn't know how to react. Maul wasn't one of the most memorable villains in Star Wars, especially when compared to Darth Vader. But no one could have predicted what would happen in this three-parter.

After Dooku laid waste to the Nightsisters, the remaining sisters sent Savage on a journey to find his brother, who just happened to be the guy Obi-Wan cut in half in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. However, Maul has changed a bit since then, and fans got to see the beginning of his transformation into one of the greatest villains in Star Wars.

1 Darth Maul's Revenge

Maul Savage

After getting a new set of robot legs, Maul had only one thing on his mind – getting revenge on Obi-Wan. After two failed attempts, Maul teamed up with the Death Watch.

Their leader, Pre Vizsla, wished to overthrow the Mandalorian Queen and rule the planet so that it may return to its violent roots. Maul agreed, but both were ultimately using each other for their own gain. It made for an entertaining arc, and slowly turned Maul into the series' most Shakespearian character since Darth Vader.
