In Season 5 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the animated series took a break from the titular confrontation between the Galactic Republic and the Separatists to shine a light on the training of young Jedi. Indeed, multiple episodes followed Ahsoka Tano as she guided a group of younglings through their trials. First, they started by visiting the planet Ilum, so the children could find the Kyber crystal that would eventually power their very own lightsaber. When they had finally found their crystals, it was time for the younglings to build the signature weapon of a Jedi. And to do that, they needed help from Professor Huyang, a character who bears a connection to the BBC series Doctor Who.

Professor Huyang, called "Professor" by the younglings for short, was introduced in Season 5's "A Test of Strength." The character is a droid who has been working for the Jedi for thousands of years. In his own ship, the Crucible, the Professor helps Jedi build their lightsabers. He has access to all sorts of materials from all corners of the galaxy, pieces of equipment that are ready to be assembled according to the Jedi's needs and specifications.

The droid Huyang from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, voiced by actor David Tennant.

In his appearances on the animated series, the Professor was voiced by actor David Tennant, who played the Tenth Doctor for three seasons of Doctor Who. Tennant's version of the Time Lord was a fan-favorite, and his addition to the Star Wars universe makes this a sort of crossover between the two franchise

What's more, fans of Doctor Who could actually spot some similarities between the Doctor and the Professor -- starting with their names. In fact, Doctor and Professor are both similar in stature. On top of that, there's also the fact that Huyang is thousands of years old just like the Doctor, an immortal Time Lord who is himself thousands of years of in age.

That isn't to say that Huyang is Star Wars' version of Doctor Who but, given the Professor's characteristics, it seems Tennant was a perfect choice to voice the droid. While the character didn't appear again in the animated series, there's always a chance he could return in future Star Wars projects, especially since the character's fate was never revealed. And the best part is that, if available, David Tennant could easily return to reprise the role.

Streaming on Disney+, the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars stars Matt Lanter as Anakin Skywalker, Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka Tano, Dee Bradley Baker as Captain Rex and the clone troopers, James Arnold Taylor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan and Sam Witwer as Maul.
