Star Wars has its share of honest, trustworthy characters, though shows like Andor have been expanding more on the gray area between good and bad. Plenty of Jedi and other heroes are likely to stick to their world. However, Star Wars isn't all gleaming heroes. Much of its action takes place in the gritty, far-flung regions of the galaxy. Criminals and renegades are present almost everywhere in the franchise.

The result is that Star Wars is full of people that shouldn't be trusted. Even some characters on the good side aren't entirely honest or truthful. From scheming Sith Lords to quick-talking double-crossers, the Star Wars galaxy is stuffed with people whose words can't be taken at face value.

10 Reva Sevander Waits Years To Betray Darth Vader

Reva Sevander The Third Sister in Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars

Those who follow the dark side are prone to lying and deceiving each other. Reva, the Third Sister of the Inquisitorius, takes this to another level. In Obi-Wan Kenobi, she reveals that her entire life as an Inquisitor is simply to get close to Darth Vader. She doesn't care about rooting out the Empire's enemies, she just wants to kill him.

In an unusual case, Reva's untrustworthiness makes her a more sympathetic character. She spends years lying to others, but the ones she's lying to are themselves evil. Reva may be hard to trust, but the ending to her story in Obi-Wan Kenobi suggests that she may turn over a new leaf.

9 Han Solo Has A Bad Side

Han Solo sitting in Mos Eisley Cantina in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

Han Solo is one of Star Wars' biggest heroes, but that doesn't mean he's an honest man. He starts off A New Hope as a criminal and mercenary figure. Worse, he's one who can't be relied upon. He spends much of the trilogy fleeing from bounty hunters because of a job for Jabba the Hutt that went wrong.

Han appears to overcome this in A New Hope when he returns to save Luke Skywalker from Darth Vader. He spends the rest of the original trilogy as a genuine and devoted friend. The Force Awakens reveals that he doesn't lose these traits forever, however. Much of his time between trilogies is spent once again as a double-crossing smuggler.

8 DJ's Biggest Act Is To Sell Out The Resistance

DJ talking to Finn and BB-8 in Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi

DJ is a mysterious figure from The Last Jedi whose presence makes everything worse. He helps Finn and Rose escape Canto Bight and agrees to help them take down the First Order's tracking device. He even seems to bond with both of them, giving harsh truths and kind gestures in equal measure.

Any facade of DJ having a better nature vanishes quickly. He betrays Finn and Rose as soon as things turn against them on the Dreadnought. Worse, he sells out the entire Resistance. His most significant act in The Last Jedi is to let hundreds die in exchange for money.

7 Haja Estree Is A Conman, Despite His Better Nature

Haja Estree taking to Obi-Wan in Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi show

Haja Estree introduces himself as a Jedi in Obi-Wan Kenobi. He pretends to be a Force-sensitive fugitive risking his life to help others like him out. In exchange for his Jedi help, he charges a huge number of credits. Notably, the help Haja offers is real. However, he lies through his teeth as he offers it.

Haja isn't a Jedi. Instead, he uses sleight-of-hand, illusions, and trickery to pretend to be one. This doesn't take away from the fact that he helps plenty of people and has a good nature deep down. However, he still lies to desperate people and offers help he might not be able to give.

6 Palpatine Lies To An Entire Galaxy

Emperor Palpatine Star Wars Revenge of the Sith

The Sith are untrustworthy, but none as much as Emperor Sheev Palpatine. Palpatine starts his backstabbing and deception long before Star Wars begins. True to the Sith Rule of Two, he builds up a close relationship with his master and then betrays and kills him. From then on, he lies to the rest of the galaxy.

Palpatine presents himself simultaneously as the kind Supreme Chancellor of the Republic and as an ally to Dooku and the Separatists. In reality, he's lying to both. He doesn't want either to win. It's all part of a ploy to drive the galaxy to war and use the chaos to take over as Emperor.

5 Timm Karlo Tries To Hand Cassian To The Empire

Timm Karlo talking to Cassian in Andor Star Wars show

Andor takes place at a time when trust is hard to come by. It follows rogues and would-be rebels in the Outer Rim at a time when everyone fears the Empire. Suspicion and mistrust are recurring elements in the series. Timm Karlo exemplifies this in his short time in the series.

Karlo is Bix Caleen's lover and is suspicious of her relationship with Cassian Andor. This suspicion boils over when he reports Cassian to Preox-Morlana. Karlo ultimately dies trying to help Bix Caleen when his actions backfire on her. However, it doesn't change that he's the one who causes them due to his dislike of Cassian.

4 Lando Calrissian Betrays His Best Friend

Lando Calrissian talking to Leia and Han in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

Lando Calrissian is one of the more complex characters in the original trilogy. He's a genuine friend to Han Solo and Chewbacca. However, his first major act in the trilogy is to betray them to the Empire. Lando has his reasons, but it's still a very cold-blooded move. He does redeem himself in the rest of the trilogy, but that act hangs over his character.

Solo: A Star Wars Story shows that this isn't new behavior for him. In that film, he's a prolific cheat at cards who abandons his newfound allies in a moment of crisis. Lando is likable, charming, and good at what he does. That doesn't make him a trustworthy person.

3 Darth Maul Proves Himself As Duplicitous As Other Sith

Maul talking to Ezra Bridger in Star Wars Rebels

In The Phantom Menace, Darth Maul appears to be a straightforward physical brute. He says very little and attacks head-on, leading some to think of him as the brawn to Sidious' brains. Later appearances in The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels prove him to be deceptive as well.

Maul is surprisingly intelligent and cunning and not afraid to leverage these traits. He deceives plenty of people, most notably Ezra and the crew of Ghost in Star Wars: Rebels. He tries to feign loyalty to Sidious in The Clone Wars, but Palpatine is shrewd enough to see through his lies.

2 Tobias Beckett Teaches Han About Deception

Tobias Beckett confronting Hal Solo for the last time in Solo: A Star Wars story

Tobias Beckett is both a mentor figure and an antagonist in Solo: A Star Wars Story. He works with Han for most of the film, only to betray him to Dryden Vos at the end. As soon as things turn against Vos, Beckett commits another betrayal, deciding to work for himself.

The movie ends in a stand-off between Han and Beckett. Even in his final moments, Beckett plays another trick. He tries to distract Han by talking as he reaches for his gun. It doesn't work, however, as Han has learned too many of Beckett's criminal ways to be fooled.

1 General Hux Becomes A Mole Out Of Hatred For Kylo Ren

General Hux lying to other imperials in Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker

A minor subplot in The Rise of Skywalker deals with a mole in the First Order. Somebody is providing the Resistance with tip-offs and information, and nobody is sure who. General Hux reveals himself as the mole in the film's second act.

Hux spends much of the trilogy as a genuine First Order loyalist. His speech in The Force Awakens seems driven and passionate. It's Kylo Ren's ascent to Supreme Leader that turns him into a spy. He spends a year pretending to still be loyal, all while feeding intelligence to the Resistance.
