The perfect roommate is the often elusive goal of all who deal with a shared living situation. The Platonic ideal for roommates is filled with contradictions. They must be neat, but not fastidious; reliable, but not boring; communicative, but not overwhelming. It can be hard to predict how two people will react when stuck together.

Star Wars' greatest strength has always been the variety of characters populating its expansive universe. There, life exists in many forms, from quadrupedal beasts with human intelligence to fully inorganic droids. Some Star Wars characters, even if they aren't the easiest to live with, would at least be interesting roommates.

10 Yoda Is A Wise Man In A Tiny Package

Yoda in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

There may be some clear drawbacks to living with Yoda, like having to carry him everywhere in a backpack. But this ancient green Jedi Master would make an excellent roommate, as long as one can get past his eccentricities.

Yoda doesn't take up much space. While fighting, he may love to flip around large chambers, but by the time he retired, Yoda is largely stationary and only two feet tall, so space wouldn't be an issue. Combine that with his tendency to leave pears of profound wisdom in funny nonsensical ramblings with his largely unknown past to ask about, and he makes an excellent roommate candidate.

9 Finn Has His Friends' Backs

There are some roommates who simply don't have each other's backs. They may be friendly, with no real issues, but they just aren't fully there in terms of trust. There are times when, for one reason or another, someone needs a friend to cover for them, whether it's as small as a favor, or even jumping into a fight at a moment's notice.

Finn did not have a good childhood. After his First Order Stormtrooper training and subsequent escape, Finn seemed to be most excited about two things: being a hero and making friends. He would be perfect in a pressured situation, though he may get distracted by Rey in the meantime.

8 C3PO Just Wants To Help

C-3PO in Revenge of the Sith

While many characters are hated for petty reasons, few have it worse than the galaxy's most famous protocol droid, C3P0. He is usually judged harshly, though perhaps viewers are only so harsh on him due to the circumstances he is shown in during the Star Wars films.

C3PO is rarely shown in situations where he would thrive, and on the few occasions he is, such as dealing with the Ewoks, the droid is the key to the heroes' success. C3PO just wants to help, so as long as he keeps busy, he will thrive and be an essential addition to any home.

7 Han Solo May Seem Too Cool But He Has Feelings Too

When Han first comes onto the scene in A New Hope, the smuggler seems like a simple mercenary, willing to do whatever work comes his way as long as it pays. He slightly redeems himself at the end of the film by backing up Luke's assault on the Death Star, but it isn't until the sequel that Han really shines.

In The Empire Strikes Back Han shows a far more emotional and dedicated side, especially in his romance with Leia. This is not the same smuggler on Tatooine that's just looking for a payday. He's become a loyal and emotionally present friend.

6 Rey Can Fix Anything

There are some roommates that, despite some questionable qualities, are put up with because of their handy person skills. They may be messy, or their personalities may need some work, but these people more than make up for that in installed appliances, fixed electronics and assembled furniture.

Rey may not have had the easiest upbringing, but she develops into a capable mechanic and a loyal friend. She is shown to quickly identify and repair issues with classic star ships, which she is also able to pilot quite well. Rey is independent enough to not completely rely on people but still values her connections dearly.

5 R2D2 Is A Perfect Sidekick

R2D2 on the Death Star in Star Wars a New Hope

R2-D2 is the more famous of the two main droids for a reason. To viewers, R2's speech, like many droids, is incomprehensible, but he manages to always bring humor to desperate situations with his beeps and boops.

R2 has many skills, from interfacing with and controlling massively complicated computer systems to performing complicated mid-flight repairs to starfighters. R2 is happy to work in the background, leaving all the glory to his human companions, and seems to just generously enjoy being around his friends. Combine that with the numerous tools and gizmos hidden in his mechanics, and he makes an excellent sidekick.

4 Vice-Admiral Holdo Is Willing To Be The Bad Guy

Sometimes roommates can be too close. Conflicts are never fully resolved due to politeness and the issues pile up until the friendship collapses under the weight of a thousand unspoken fights.

Vice-Admeral Holdo of the Galactic Resistance fleet doesn't play those games. She likes to take charge and make tough decisions to succeed. Even under impossible circumstances, she keeps a cool head, perhaps thanks to her extensive background in espionage. Holdo is willing to be the bad guy, even when it doesn't win her any popularity contests. Though she sometimes has her own issues regarding communications and the chain of command, she is, at her core, reliable.

3 Everyone Needs Chewbacca After A Tough Day

Chewbacca with his Bowcaster in Star Wars

Chewbacca is loyal, far more so than any roommate met of Craigslist. His race of Wookies, giant furry tree-dwelling aliens, are noted for the seriousness they place on life debts like the one between Chewie and Han, which is the impitus for their iconic friendship.

Chewbacca's strongest contribution as a roommate, however, would have to be his fur. The Covid lockdown led to many people adopting pets, looking for fluffy companionship. Chewbacca is fluffier than any Earth dog, can walk himself, use the toilet, and is more than able to pay a share of the rent. He's a giant smart dog who is eternally loyal.

2 Poe Dameron Brings Out People's Best

Star Wars The Last Jedi Poe Dameron makes a plan

While some roommates' strengths are their chill attitudes, Poe Dameron's strength is the exact opposite. Poe is the kind of guy who would see his roommate depressed and decide to do something about it. He would force his friend to go on a run, then do something he loves followed by a night out.

Poe's enthusiasm can be overwhelming at points, but he's a good guy who just wants what's best for his friends, even when they're holding themselves back. He's positive, brave, and funny, not to mention filled with stories from both his smuggling and Resistance days.

1 Leia Pays The Rent And Keeps The Cops Out

Princess Leia And Stormtroopers In Star Wars A New Hope

On a surface level, Leia's status as princess of Aldreaan and member of the Galactic Senate bode well in terms of payment. There is no way she would run out of funds so getting her to keep up with her half of the bills would never be an issue.

Princess Leia's greatest strength, explicitly lying to the servants of oppression, would work well in a modern context as well. She has extensive experience fooling high-level officials of the Galactic Empire, so getting cops to stay out of a party even though there was a noise complaint would be a piece of cake.
