Rogue One: A Star Wars Story co-writer Tony Gilroy is scaling back his role on Disney+'s Cassian Andor spinoff series.

According to Deadline, Gilroy -- who was supposed to direct the first three episodes -- did not want to depart New York for the United Kingdom due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. As such, he'll be replaced by Black Mirror's Toby Haynes, though Gilroy remains onboard as executive producer and showrunner.

In April, it was announced that Gilroy had boarded the yet-to-be-titled Cassian Andor series as showrunner after being tapped to rewrite the pilot in October 2019. Gilroy not only co-wrote Rogue One but also oversaw the film's extensive reshoots after Lucasfilm was unhappy with the version from director Gareth Edwards.

The Cassian Andor series will serve as a prequel to Rogue One and center on the eponymous Rebellion soldier and his smart-mouthed droid companion K-2SO. It will join fellow Disney+ live-action Star Wars series The Mandalorian and the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi project.

Disney+'s untitled Cassian Andor series stars Diego Luna, Alan Tudyk, Adria Arjona, Genevieve O'Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Denise Gough and Kyle Soller. The series has yet to receive a premiere date.
