The Book of Boba Fett was surprised-announced by way of a post-credits stinger following the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian. The scene featured Boba Fett returning to the palace of Jabba the Hutt, who died in Return of the Jedi, only to execute Bib Fortuna and claim Jabba's throne as his own. Sitting right beside him was Fennec Shand, who's been tied to Fett throughout his time on The Mandalorian.

Fett is being helmed by Robert Rodriguez, who directed the Season 2 episode of The Mandalorian that brought the seminal Star Wars bounty hunter back into the fold. "[I] can’t say anything about it at all right now, but it’s coming out in December… Wait until you see what’s coming," Rodriguez teased in August. "It’s going to blow your mind. That’s all I can say. I can talk it up all I want because I know it over-delivers. It way over-delivers. People are going to be so pumped when they see it." Stunt actor Brandon Wayne also promised that the show will see Fett get "even grittier than Mando did. I feel like he doesn't have the choice because he really was a different kind of character."
