At the start of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, Luke Skywalker and his allies enacted their plot to rescue Han Solo, who had been captured and frozen in carbonite by bounty hunter Boba Fett in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. During their battle, Fett was knocked into the Sarlacc Pit and his canon fate was left uncertain until he returned in Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2. By the time that Disney+ series wrapped up, the bounty hunter had returned and reclaimed his lost armor from Din Djarin, which set the stage for the Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett spin-off.

The Book of Boba Fett will follow the titular bounty hunter and his ally, Fennec Shand, after taking Jabba the Hutt's palace back from Bib Fortuna at the end of The Mandalorian Season 2. As is common with Disney's highest-profile projects, little plot information is available for The Book of Boba Fett at this time. However, the series seems likely to provide more information about what happened to Boba Fett following his near-death experience in Return of the Jedi and will have flashbacks to the Original Trilogy's era. The project is also said to, despite its title, make Shand just as important as Fett.
