WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Episode 7 of Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett, "Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor," streaming now on Disney+.

As the sequel trilogy progressed, Star Wars fans were shocked to see Luke Skywalker in his old age being so bitter, abandoning the galaxy for the First Order to ravage. This wasn't the heroic Luke people expected in the wake of Return of the Jedi, made even more disappointing with how he tried to kill Ben Solo and reject Rey off.

He redeemed himself later, but still, most of this new depiction felt like an angry, lazy, deadbeat dad who shirked responsibility, only caring to drink alien milk on Ahch-To. Unfortunately, while The Book of Boba Fett teased his redemption, all the Season 1 finale did was confirm the Jedi was a big jerk.

Now, this isn't to knock Luke's sacrifice years later, as his Force projection would stop Kylo Ren for a bit; plus, he'd help Rey win the battle against Palpatine. However, fans wanted more of him being caring and loving, evoking the warmth of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda and even Qui-Gon Jinn. They were like parents who tried to seek out the best for the Order, but that wasn't present a lot with Luke and his rebuilt temple.

Thankfully, a snapshot was seen with him training Grogu, but things went astray when Luke gave him that Sith-like ultimatum to choose between the Jedi or the Mandalorian way. Grogu chose the latter and rather than escort him to Tatooine, Luke shipped him off. This paved a cold atmosphere for when R2-D2 touched down on a war-stricken Mos Espa with the X-Wing to drop the child off for Din.

Luke should have made the journey to protect the child, comforting him over his traumatic past and thanking him for their brief time together. Instead, Luke came off arrogant and spoilt by not caring about how Grogu got back. Seeing as he sensed the kid on Corvus, there could have been other enemies who felt the awakening too, waiting to hijack the ship. Sith or Dark Side cultists, bounty hunters or Moff Gideon's disciples were perfect candidates who'd want to kill, steal or appropriate Grogu. After all, if it's one thing Star Wars has taught fans, there's always danger lurking when peace has been established.

Instead, Luke contradicted his protective veneer from The Mandalorian. The risk of the trip aside, Luke also didn't care to see his friends and old home. He could have left them inspirational words to show he wasn't a myth but a doe-eyed kid who went from aspiring pilot to a legend under the twin suns.

More so, he could have helped save Tatooine and offered Din advice for the future, in case Grogu needed help again. Ultimately, it's par the course for how he'd end up in the movies, but it left loyalists curious if they'll ever see him as a benevolent, compassionate teacher for a long period of time.

See how Luke acts like a jerk in The Book of Boba Fett, with all seven episodes of Season 1 streaming now on Disney+.
