WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Bad Batch Episode 5, "Rampage," streaming now on Disney+.

After their nearly disastrous supply run on Pantora, Clone Force 99 is desperate to find out who attacked them in the latest episode of Star Wars: The Bad Batch. Hoping to gain some intel, they make a stop on Ord Mantell to meet with a former Jedi informant named Cid and get more than they bargained for. Before Cid will give them any information, they have to rescue a child named Muchi from Zygerrian slave traders.

Short on resources and relatably short on credits, the Bad Batch readily agrees. But while doing recon and seemingly finding the captive child, they are captured by the slavers. They are only able to escape when Omega shows up and causes a distraction by releasing a “rampaging, adolescent rancor.” And it's at this point the Bad Batch is informed that Muchi is not the child they were expecting; she's actually the rancor.

Always up for a challenge, though, Clone Force 99 completes its mission. After Muchi takes care of most of the Zygerrians, all the team has to do is subdue the rancor herself. Tech informs everyone that rancors have to be challenged for authority, so Wrecker does just that. After a long fight, he calms the young rancor down and they become friends. The group then returns to collect their bounty and the information about the bounty hunter following them. However, when they get back to Cid, they find out the rancor is owned by Jabba the Hutt, and Bib Fortuna has come to claim it.

This, of course, isn't the first time Jabba has had a pet rancor. The crime lord famously tried to feed Luke Skywalker to one in Return of the Jedi, and, given all the information at hand, it would be fair to assume that the creature from that movie and the one in The Bad Batch are one and the same. However, as dark as Star Wars can get from time to time, that's not the case this time around.

The good news is that, although the timing may work out depending on how fast a rancor grows, the two creatures are entirely different. Muchi, the baby rancor, is a female, while the rancor Luke fights and kills is a male named Pateesa. But while there is good news, there's a flip side to every coin. With this new development, it appears as if Jabba has an affinity for exotic pets, and he clearly enjoys pitting them against unsuspecting, captured enemies. From that unfortunate perspective, it seems likely Muchi suffered a similar fate to Patessa.

Of course, for the more optimistic Star Wars fans, it's entirely possible Muchi lived a long, happy life before dying of natural causes and being replaced by Pateesa. It may not be the most likely conclusion for one of Jabba’s pets, but stranger things have happened in a galaxy far, far away.

Created by Dave Filoni, Star Wars: The Bad Batch stars Dee Bradley Baker, Andrew Kishino and Ming-Na Wen. New episodes air Fridays on Disney+.
